A holiday album jam-packed with upbeat yuletide tunes, Elliott Yamin hits it on the head with his newest release, My Kind of Holiday.
When someone hears the name Elliott Yamin, many people automatically think “former American Idol Season Five contestant” and singer of the hit slow-tempo ballad “Wait For You.” One of the hottest acts coming out of the hit TV Show, Yamin delivers a stellar album well in time for the upcoming holiday season.
The album opens with an energized and fun song entitled “This Christmas.” While many may be expecting a slower carol to lead off the album, Yamin sets the creative, upbeat tempo of the majority of the album. With a few listens, you definitely get into the holiday spirit quickly: even in the midst of October or November.
There is not a below-average song on the disc, but Yamin’s performance of “Little Drummer Boy” was merely average. The song was sung in a more traditional-holiday style, in comparison with the other tracks on the album. One of the staples of the holiday music genre, the song missed the “Elliott Yamin-it” factor that made the rest of the holiday album.
Yamin’s funky and unique covers of many of the holiday classics will undoubtedly brighten your holiday season. In fact, this album has so much “funk” to it that many could find it difficult to classify it as a holiday album in the first place: it sounds more like an older soul album. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as Yamin is one of the first to step out and perform a holiday album in this style.
Yamin released a similar holiday album in 2007, which contained the first eight tracks of this album on it. For those who invested in the CD from last year, it may not be worth grabbing hold of this one; there are only two new tracks at the end of the CD.
This holiday album is sure to impress, and it is a solid addition to any music collection. For those looking to kick off the holiday season with a bang, Elliott Yamin delivers a great album for all once again.Powered by Sidelines
