What a difference a few years made for LA-based singer-songwriter Alexx Calise. When I first wrote about Calise in 2009, I presciently dubbed her an “artist on the rise.” Her mix of heavy guitar riffs and unique vocals were out of the usual singer-songwriter genre. Four years later, Calise is riding a wave of success, built mainly the old school way, by word of mouth and live shows. But Calise also grabbed onto that thoroughly modern way to get your songs heard in today’s fragmented music soundscape, licensing music for television shows.
A case in point is Calise’s excellent 2010 song “Cry.” One of my favorites of hers, the song got a second chance at success when it was featured on Lifetime’s Dance Moms. That TV placement skyrocketed the song on the iTunes chart and led to Calise appearing on some episodes of the show. From there, Calise’s music has appeared on Grimm, One Tree Hill, Last Call with Carson Daly, and a number of reality shows from NY Ink to Dog the Bounty Hunter.
Now, following up on her excellent 2012 EP AC3, Alexx Calise has just released a brand new single “All Night Long”. It’s a bluesy mid-tempo rocker showcasing her vocal chops. For “All Night Long,” Calise reunited with producer/engineer Wesley Michener. The song is available for download at iTunes and other digital retailers.
