The journey into music videos (and other bits) continues its mission to deliver something worthy of your time, perhaps introducing you to something new along the way.

This week I continue compiling videos and various musical related tid-bits for your viewing pleasure. Some will be brand spanking new, while others will just be things I like. I am not great with timeliness, but I hope you’ve been enjoying these video collections.

Diamond Head – “Skin on Skin”

This is the latest video from British act Diamond Head. I do not know much about these guys other than Metallica covered a couple of their tunes back in the early 1980s, including “Am I Evil?” I never have listened to much Diamond Head, but let me tell you, this song is pretty cool. The vocals sounded a little weird early on, but I adjusted and like how everything fits together, I like the super heavy edge that flows through it. Take a look at “Skin on Skin”:

Paul Gilbert – Soundcheck Footage

It has been forever since I have heard Gilbert play. Below are three videos of Paul Gilbert during soundcheck, by himself and with his band. The playing is a fantastic listen and all three videos are worth checking out. I particularly enjoyed just watching him play by himself, his guitar has a great sound.

Suidakra – “Shattering Swords”

German folk metal, interesting. I have had limited exposure to folk metal, but it is a genre that is definitely intriguing, blending very old sounds and styles with modern metal. The result stands out from anything in the mainstream. “Shattering Swords” comes from Suidakra’s forthcoming album, which I may have to get my hands on.

Sirenia – “Path to Decay”

This was recently posted over at Blabbermouth where it seems to have had a rather strong reaction. Apparently one of the band members is masterful at doom-death metal with a great voice and now is doing this, which is more along the lines of Evanesence. I am not familiar with the doom stuff, especially since this is the first song I have heard from this act. In any case, this tune is mediocre at best. I like the music, but the vocals are not all that hot.

Zerosystem – “New Brand of Justice”

This tune is rather frustrating. I like some of the stuff they are doing musically, particularly the electronic sounds strewn throughout. It is pretty grooving cut, but it is also rather bland and never seems to reach what it is aiming for. However, the worst part is the vocals, too much screamo and not enough metal. Finally, take the camera off the see-saw!

Steve Vai – “Blue Powder” (live)

Not sure why, but I got the desire to check out some Steve Vai stuff on YouTube and came across this live performance of “Blue Powder” recorded in 2001 for his Live at the Astoria DVD (a disk I think I may have, but never watched). Quite simply put the guy is flat out amazing! If that isn’t enough, check out the bass parts provided by Billy Sheehan!

Callejon – “Phantomschmerz”

Never heard of them before and do not understand a single word they are saying, but I must admit to be digging on the song. They are a so-called “zombiecore” band, although I am not sure what that means. When I started the video I was expecting something like one of my friend’s band, Hard Rock Zombie, complete with blood and make up. Instead I got something different, it has zombies in it and music that is pretty cool. Take a look:
