When my girlfriend dragged me to watch Green Lantern today, I had no expectations, as I am not very familiar with the character. Also, I’m not that big of a fan of Ryan Reynolds. However, after watching it, I can say that Ryan has done at least one movie I like. The Hal Jordan character was reasonably believable, at least as far as super-hero movies go. Of course, there is a love story in there, which just irritates me, but I suppose it’s a necessary evil at this point. The special effects are pretty impressive, and they make pretty good use of the 3D technology.
Nothing really explodes out of the screen at you, but the 3D does make the effects look just a little bit cooler. The acting was fairly decent. I don’t think anyone will be winning any Actor of the Year nominations out of this movie, but it was still pretty good. If I had to rate it on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a solid 7.5. It’s not a fantastic movie, but it is far from the worst super-hero movie I’ve seen. While I’m not sure exactly how reliable it is to the official canon of the Green Lantern, it still has enough action, it explains the plot pretty well, and it looks quite pretty. I would definitely watch it again.Powered by Sidelines
