After heading to the studio to play guitar for Modest Mouse who are working on their follow up to their last release (2004′s Good News for People who Like Bad News), Johnny Marr has been made a full member of the band. The former Smiths’ member worked well with the rest of the band and both parties agreed the arrangement should be full-time. The album they’ve been working on We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank should be out before the end of this year.
Google has made a deal with Viacom’s MTV Networks that will insert video into Google’s AdSense’s targeted advertising stream. Google will start testing the service by the end of the month. The service will include clips from Viacom-owned hit series, which include things like Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants and MTV’s Laguna Beach. The clips will be between two to four minutes long.
A consortium of the world’s largest record labels has filed a copyright infringement suit against LimeWire. The suit alleges LimeWire allowed users to illegally download music. The suit is seeking damages to the tune of $150,000 per song “willfully infringed” by the program and is being filed by the consortium Sony BMG, EMI, Universal Music, and Warner Music Group.
