Michelle Malkin’s Sandwich Board Asks “Where Is The Outrage?”

Please Share...Twitter0Facebook0Google+0LinkedIn0Pinterest0tumblrStumbleUpon0Reddit0Email

In another attempt to sucker-punch people into her frame of mind, the ever-belligerent Michelle Malkin links to a video in a recent post on her blog. Malkin, still under the delusion of some kind of journalistic integrity, posted another article with no content of her own (only 33 words of the over 300-word article isn’t copy-pasted material).

She gives us a link to a video of the beheading of a Russian hostage with only a “propagandist” warning: “Only watch if you are prepared to look the evils of jihad in the eye” and wonders where the outrage is. Now just who's on a Jihad here?

Although I find offensive what these Muslims do to hostages, as would any civilised person, I find it offensive that the video was reposted; as a link, but reposted anyway. The line between a link and embedding is pretty thin.

If Malkin isn't posting student war protesters' home and electronic coordinates, she's posting videos (or links to videos) of someone getting beheaded. I wonder if anyone would be outraged had this been an American's decapitation depicted on video. But it's just some Russian dude; no harm done to the war effort or troop morale.

Yup! Malkin really shines as a human being, using the graphic video of the decapitation of another human being for her personal gain. Then she protests the Mainstream Media for using these very tactics, which is do anything to drive the mission plan (i.e. crusade) to success, although I doubt even Fox News would stoop so low and show such graphic material to drive their propaganda machine.

I don't think there's a point of no return in Malkin's twisted mind where decency ends and incivility begins in her crusade to convert people to her extreme rightwing agenda. Not to mention she’s probably exasperated to be considered Coulter’s understudy and seems to be upping the sensationalism and cheap red and yellow tabloid tactics to get more attention.

She’s quickly becoming a media buffoon. When Bill O’Reilly takes you to school on air for being off your rocker, it’s because you’ve really gone where no one should go. Thanks for another tasteless spectacle of your obsession, which I believe hurts America more than any left-wing anti-war campaign ever could. And that's my outrage.

well, at least she is for freedom of the press to show snuff films…

that’s got to be great “for the children”

    but i digress…

I noticed the last time I checked out her site that most of what was on there was links to other material with a few words of her own. Even I could do that!

My only problem with this piece is in two things you said…on one hand you, like many others, you make the cynical statement about “although I doubt even Fox News would stoop so low” and then in the next breath bring up Fox News number one show (O’Reilly)for taking Malkin to school!

My question is…is Fox News really as bad as “progressives” make them out to be?

  • http://blogcritics.org/writer.php?name=gonzo%20marx gonzo marx

    Andy…the Answer is….yes

examples: Hannity is touted as some kind of bastion of “conservative values”…yet he made his bones in broadcasting as an announcer for professional wrestling…he left that job by suing his employer for “sexual harassment” because the athletes were teasing him…so instead of being Principled he settles out of court for an undisclosed amount…and a few years later winds up on AM talk radio, then Fox…

Keith Olberman hits on O’Reilly once or twice a week with clear factual errors

and finally, the chief political news Editor for Fox is someone whose own online calendar has him at GOP fundraisers for at least half a month every month…good old Newt Gingrich

need i add the Snow Job just officially hired so he can parrot what he has been told directly rather than via morning mailing?

    but i digress…

There’s lots of outrage David but there’s a lot more hilarity. These two women should team up and take it..(you thought I was gonna say in the rear) no David, on the road. I don’t think even Extreme Right wingers take them too seriously, probably more as an embarrassment.
Would you really want to give up scenes such as Ann Coulter on Bill Maher when poised by a question on a serious matter?
That suddenly vacant stare, wide opening eyes, crossing ever so slightly and her head bobbing around like one of thse little dolls set on your dash?
We need Michelle Malkin, not only to provide double the entertainment but to sop up the slime Coulter leaves behind in her travels. I can’t allow myself to be outraged by anyone who posts on OGRISH.COM
Malkin is a bad joke and a sorry excuse for a human being and like any bad cold, she’ll go away.

and Ted Turner is any better?

  • http://blogcritics.org/writer.php?name=gonzo%20marx gonzo marx

ummmm…Ted doesn’t own any networks any more

and any slant brom CNN can be shown to have come after AOL/Time Warner took over…Ted was very hands off when it came to the news channel…evidence for how much changed…

example: gulf war 1, there were two reporters in a hotel room when the first gulf war broke out, it was from this team that the famous green light footage of the initial air strike came from…

when Saddam’s soldiers banged on the door, all of this was live on the air, one Reporter opened the door and talked the soldiers away while the other hid under the bed…

the one who stayed standing and Reported all through that night was Bernie Shaw, who under Turner had the “Inside Politics” show to himself, with Shaw being in full editorial control of content and presentation…

when Turner was osted, Bernie left..the show devolved to Judy Woodruff, and then was cancelled…

the big “anchor” for the AOL/Time Warner CNN is Wolf Blitzer…

who was the reporter under the bed

    nuff said…

So, you’re the other guy that watches Olberman!??!?!

  • Maurice

I have no real frame of reference for this since I got rid of my TV before Fox News. I am not familiar with Michelle.

It does seem appropriate to let people know just how barbaric the jihadists are.

Is there outrage at the jihadists?

  • http://blogcritics.org/writer.php?name=gonzo%20marx gonzo marx

they outrage me Maurice, and they do need to be taken out…especially the ones we have caused by a pre-emptive Invasion, and the ones still in Afghanistan (including bin Laden and Mullah Omar) who are the REAL targets, since they were involved in attacking U.S.

i am also outraged at the Mercenaries being the second largest force in Iraq after american troops

and i am further outraged by ANY and ALL of the actions taken that go against the traditional Ethics of our Military

i’m outraged at the shoddy way those who have been wounded are being treated when they come home

i’m outraged that Tony Snow , from the posium o fthe WH press secretary, said that the 2500 dead were “just a number”

Why do any of you care about this? I don’t get it. All the woman did was post a link to an example of a jihadist attrocity. She didn’t play it in a classroom full of kids or broadcast it on TV. She just showed where it was and going to see it was entirely voluntary on the part of anyone who visited her site. I’m sure thousands of other bloggers have done the same thing, and no one is bitching about them. The only thing that sets Malkin apart is that she’s held with some reverence by people on the right and has a higher profile. So by objecting to this, you’re just using it as an excuse to object to her use of her freedom of speech, and I really don’t see the point.

Right out of the Dean playbook……….

    NO shit JOM…..

I remember when Kelo v New London was decided by the supreme court. Howard Dean came on TV and said “and now we have George Bush’s supreme court trying to take our property away.”

First of all Bush hadn’t yet made any appointments to the court.

And second it was the liberal left leaning justices who came down on the side of emminent domain not the conservative ones.

This guy has the habit of opening his mouth and spewing untrue vitrolic garbage and the leftist lemmings that think he would have made a good president suck it up.

    WHat a joke!

  • http://blogcritics.org/writer.php?name=gonzo%20marx gonzo marx

Arch, look around..i was right there with you on the Kelo mess…

now, Abu Grahib, GITMO, and possibly Haditha…12 mercenaries arrested by Marines 2 motnhs ago for firing randomly into buildings (they were released later, over the sergeants objections)

as for the wounded, just check the VA website to see the rules…wounded being returned and stuck in certain hospitals…charged for some services as per new directions from DoD, and hardships for families that need to travel to be with their loved one rather than bringing the injured soldier to the VA facility nearest hsi home (yes, both facilities have the same resources)

the Copmmittee report in Congress has much more…try the GAO for that one

sorry Arch, the last bit wasn’t for you…

as for Coulter and Malkin…at least no one is trying to call them “traitors” and prosecute them for “treason” when there is NO legally declared War…

My only problem with Malkin is similar to my problem with a number of high profile bloggers – they mainly post just links, quotes and excerpts – but rarely generate original content or even offer any insight that might add to the story they link to.

The typical link is “look at this!”. “Look-at-this” is fine up to a point but I would hope that a blog with a considerable audience would try to be a little bit more than just a link aggregator, particularly since they often (and I’m thinking of Glenn Reynolds and Instapundit in particular) set themselves up as the “new” bastion of information freedom when in reality they are mostly parasitical link aggregators that probably could and should be replaced with an RSS feed. For all their attacks on the MSM, they are utterly and completely beholden to the MSM for giving them something to link to.

As for Malkin, last time I looked it was her blog, she is under no obligation to anyone but herself to determine what she chooses to link her site to. The first and best solution if you disagree with it, is not to read it.

  • http://theendofdave.com Dave

If everyone just looked away from what they didn’t like it’d be chaos, there had to be rules of conduct. Easy simple stuff like not publishing information to her legion of nutjob followers about people who oppose the war. When she did that, she had intent. When she publishes beheadings, she has intent. It’s that intent that is poisonous, it’s not uncontextualised scribblings.

But then the conservatives only wish the voices of opposition would just be silenced for their goals to be achieved with least resistance. Shut up and teach, shut up and sing, shut and [insert profession here]

  • Arch Conservative

Maytbe next week we can throw some stones at Maureen Dowd and poke her with sticks like we’ve been doing to Coulter and Malkin.

    She certainly deserves it.

  • http://www.booklinker.blogspot.com Deano

“If everyone just looked away from what they didn’t like it’d be chaos, there had to be rules of conduct.”

Okay so you want to call in the FCC and start having web-based publishing regulated and controlled?

You can’t have it both ways – you can’t have the freedom to post your views, ideas and opinions and have other people not be able to do so. You can call for people to obey social norms and norms of acceptable conduct, or at the least maintain a facade of polite society but it is obviously a matter of self-discipline and self-control. Who determines what is acceptable or not? Malkin linked a beheading, someone else links to porn, someone else to illegal mp3s…who draws the line and by who’s standards?

I don’t know Malkin, never met her and very rarely read her blog. Of course she had intent – why is that a surprise – her blog is all about intent – drive your traffic by linking to contraversy etc. Frankly to me she is just so much noise and fluff in the Blogosphere contributing little of original or worthy thought…I really don’t care what she likes to link to, but I do care about not having who I choose to link to being under the auspices of some external regulatory body or authority.

“But then the conservatives only wish the voices of opposition would just be silenced for their goals to be achieved with least resistance”

What the heck were you just calling for in your comment anyway – rules of conduct right? You want restraint but it is never a one-way street. Implementing regulation won’t just shut up the Malkin’s of the world, but it will also serve to shut you up. You want to be silenced? Keep right on screaming for restraint on Malkin….

  • http://theendofdave.com Dave

Deano, rules of HUMAN conduct. Unwritten rules, social contract, self restraint, what ever you want to call it. There’s a big difference between critique and pandering. Like you did by subtly not including the rest of the argument in your quote, which takes out the meaning, the whole “shut up and” part. If it were up to the cons, only so-called “experts” should have a say in politics.

And BTW, the line is drawn by ethics.

  • Arch Conservative

If it were up to the cons, only so-called “experts” should have a say in politics.

    Is that so?

Then why do so many [Edited] liberals think “if you support the war in Iraq then you better sign up yourself,” is an insightful argument for opposition to the war in Iraq Dave?

What do liberals know about ethics? They’re the ones reminding us all of how tolerant they are and then calling Malkin a “slanty eyed gook” on thier “progressive blogs,” and call Colin Powell and Condaleeza Rice uncle toms because they have differing political views.

    Give me a fucking break.

  • http://www.booklinker.blogspot.com Deano

Dave, I understand the line is drawn by ethics but how on earth do you want to enforce ethics? Particularly online?

As for rules of ethical human conduct – who decides what rules are enforced and where the line is drawn? Is it religious authorities? Legal? A combination of both? If you can bell that particular cat effectively then more power to you…

I understand perfectly what your frustration is but barring Malkin developing a sudden onset of ethical goodwill, there is no practical, realistic method of developing restraints beyond the social mechanism of shunning her work and ignoring her idiocies, unless you want to open the Pandora’s box of regulation, which as I noted, won’t stop with her (might not even start with her) but will serve to cripple and eliminate the current level of freedom of expression and discourse…even the really, really stupid discussions.

As for your critique and pandering comment, I’ll tell you frankly that I find that the fanatics of both right-wing conservatism and left-wing libralism seem to share an equal desire to limit people’s ability to communicate, express themselves and to think critically. They both want to tell people what to think.

If you equate that as pandering then I guess you have a lot more in common with Malkin then you might have thought.

  • RogerMDillon

Arch, you need to get over yourself and your poor critical thinking skills.

If you continue to use a broad brush on liberals because some lefty called Malkin names, then I guess we should lump in all the conservatives with the guys who killed Matthew Sheppard and James Byrd Jr. I have a hunch they weren’t peacenik, tree-huggers.

So until you give up your poor analogies, I’m going to ask you, Arch, to stop crucifying gays and stop dragging African-American men behind trucks. Please.

  • http://theendofdave.com Dave

Deano, I certainly don’t want some sort of regulations, but can still find Malkin offensive and call on her for self-control or restraint. Like a child crying in a restaurant, you can only take so much, eventually the child must be controled.

  • http://theendofdave.com Dave

To add to RogerMDillon: Or more recently death threats on Ava Lowery, a 15 year old girl who opposes the war by making animated films asking Americans to take a stand. Should we believe that all Conservatives are a nudge away from killing children with opinions?

The fact that you compare politics to the horrors of combat shows just how far out of touch with the realities of war you really are, Archie. And why would you send someone else to fight your battles for you, anyway?

Gonzo, I’m a little late picking up on this, but… in #15, you wrote:

as for the wounded, just check the VA website to see the rules…wounded being returned and stuck in certain hospitals…charged for some services as per new directions from DoD

I have been treated for YEARS by the VA for a service connected disability and have NEVER been charged a penny for any medical treatment for that condition.

I challenge you to cite a case of a veteran wounded in combat, or even injured in a non combat event, who has been charged for treatment for anything incurred while on active duty.

The VA does charge veterans MODEST fees for treatment of NON service connected conditions. These charges are “means tested”, meaning the higher your income, the more you pay.

Currently, more than 2.5 million veterans from WW I forward are being treated as both in-patients and out-patients by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and considering the limitations of their budget, they do a hell of a good job.
