One of the things Lady Gaga is known for is her interesting taste in fashion. She took that taste in fashion to a literal tasty new level, making her — at least her outfits — welcome to any cook out, by deciding to wear two outfits made out of raw meat.  One was a bikini that she wore for the cover of Vogue, and the other one was worn at the MTV VMA’s.

The bikini looked like thinly sliced beef cuts that were delicately draped on her body. There was the added bonus of something that looked like a meat hair bow and a meat bracelet. The meat dress she wore to the VMA’s covered significantly more skin than the bikini and appeared to use slightly thicker pieces of meat. It was accessorized with what appeared to be a meat beret.  For me, what really put this outfit over the top was the meat on her feet, platform shoes made out of meat.

Why would someone want to wear raw meat?  After the MTV VMA’s, Lady Gaga offered Ellen Degeneres two explanations.  The first explanation that she presented actually sounded like she had put some thought into it.

“It’s certainly no disrespect to anyone that’s vegan or vegetarian. As you know I’m the most judgment-free human being on the Earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening it’s [saying] if we don’t stand up for what we believe in, if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones.”

Her second explanation – sounding as if she had made it up on the spot – basically said that wearing the meat symbolized that she is “not a piece of meat”

A representative of People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA), seemed to suggest that Lady Gaga either has lost her ability to smell, or that her meat clothing might be fake. He pointed out that if it were real meat, it would not take long for it to begin to smell, stating that, “After time spent under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh that it is and likely be crawling in maggots.”

I really hope her meat was fake.  I could not imagine raw meat touching me all over the place, and the thought that it might contain maggots as well is simply more than my poor brain can handle.  However, if it is real, it leads me back to my original question – Why would anyone want to wear raw meat?   I can think of a whole lot more appropriate and healthier ways to share her messages. Obviously, Lady Gaga is not familiar with what cross contamination is.
