In case you don’t know how the Emmy process works. The supporting nominees pick two episodes to submit. The voters of those categories watch those tapes and vote on the winner.

Best Supporting Actor – Drama Series:
ALAN ALDA, THE WEST WING

Naveen Andrews, Lost
Terry O’Quinn, Lost
Oliver Platt, Huff
William Shatner, Boston Legal
—————–
Oliver Platt has a very unlikable character on Huff and doesn’t have good tapes. I’d say he’s the only one I can’t see winning. Terry O’Quinn was one of the favorite characters on Lost. His messed up on one of his tapes, so voters who didn’t keep up with the show probably won’t be impressed with him. The other three have a very good chance. Naveen Andrews nailed his submissions. He submitted both of his episodes where the show looked back on his life before the island. Voters will be impressed, but will it be enough to take down Alda & Shatner. Alda got alot of attention for his role on The West Wing. He has a showier role and the tapes to back it up. William Shatner won the Guest Actor Emmy last year for the same character he plays on Boston Legal. Voters must love his character. He has good tapes, but not amazing ones. I’m going to predict Alda because he’s an Emmy favorite. I wouldn’t be suprised if Andrews beat him though.

Best Supporting Actress – Drama Series:
Stockard Channing, The West Wing
Tyne Daly, Judging Amy
BLYTHE DANNER, HUFF
Sandra Oh, Grey’s Anatomy
CCH Pounder, The Shield
——————
Stockard Channing didn’t have anything to do on The West Wing this season. She only had one good episode and she didn’t submit. She won’t win. Sandra Oh has an interesting character on Grey’s Anatomy, but her nomination is most likely because of her role in Sideways. Pounder has always been praised on The Shield, but Close stole her thunder this season. I don’t see her winning. That leaves Daly & Danner. Daly is an Emmy favorite. Her character had a showy season and that could win her the Emmy. The fact that the show was cancelled and very mediocre will hurt her chances. Danner is the best thing about Huff and submitted two good episodes. She’s also been nominated 3 times this year and this is her best bet. I’m giving her the edge because of that.

Best Supporting Actor – Comedy Series:
PETER BOYLE, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND

Brad Garrett, Everybody Loves Raymond
Sean Hayes, Will & Grace
Jeremy Piven, Entourage
Jeffrey Tambor, Arrested Development
————–
Sean Hayes is well liked, but his character on W&G has just become so tired. The show is past its prime and I doubt it’ll get Hayes a win. Jeffrey Tambor is well liked in Hollywood and is overdue for a win. This is his 6th nomination in this category (4 for The Larry Sanders Sanders, 2 for Arrested Development). Tambor’s character on AD is not the funniest and he was the weakest cast member this season. Piven is a favorite. Everyone seems to love his character Ari. His tapes are weak and will turn off voters. That leaves the Raymond boys, Boyle & Garrett. Garrett has two funny tapes and is well liked. Boyle has been nominated here since 1999 and hasn’t won. He’s overdue and the sentimental favorite. He edges out Garrett.

Best Supporting Actress – Comedy Series:
Conchata Ferrell, Two and a Half Men
Megan Mullally, Will & Grace
Doris Roberts, Everybody Loves Raymond
HOLLAND TAYLOR, TWO AND A HALF MEN
Jessica Walter, Arrested Development
————–
Ferrell’s nomination came out of nowhere. With her background character and weak tapes, she’s not in the race. Megan Mullally is always funny on W&G, but the show just doesn’t compare to others in categories. I don’t see her winning. That leaves the three grandmothers. Walter is hysterical on Arrested Development, but will voter go for her unsympathetic character? They’ve done with Roberts. Roberts is an Emmy favorite. She’s won three emmys for ELR already. She’s the sentimental favorite. Holland Taylor is the best actor on Two and a Half Men and it shows. She has great tapes and voters like her. They gave her Supporting Actress Drama award in 1999 for The Practice, where she was just a glorified guest star, over Nancy Marchand & Camryn Manhiem. I’m just taking a wild guess that Holland Taylor will win, my wild prediction this year.

I hate to disagree with you – but Holland Taylor isn’t the BEST actor on Two and a Half Men – she’s ONE of the many great actors on the show.

    Proof? One word: SQUAB

W&G has become so unfunny and tired. It was a fluke they got 15 Emmy nominations, which included 4 in Guest Actor.
