Amid the buzz of a downtown Renaissance, Jonathan Redford looks for a dose of old school Hollywood glamor on the Wilshire Corridor. And find he does at the 1920s-era lounge and restaurant Royale. He meets with Spago-vet and executive chef Eric Ernest to learn just what exactly French-California cuisine means (did someone say Diamond Ranch bacon?) and the secret behind Ernest’s special recipe for ahi tuna.
But it just may be the cocktail lounge -– once the it spot for Prohibition-era young Hollywood -– that has Angelinos buzzing most.. Is it as glamorous as it sounds? The seemingly mile-long marble bar has us saying yes and oh-so-happy that Prohibition is long gone.
