Legislation Would Put ‘Megan’s Law’ Database On Internet

The issue of putting this information on the Internet is highly controversial in California. Currently, the only way to access the information is by visiting local law enforcement agencies. However, it is available only during the day and no access is available on weekends. The database includes names and addresses of known sex offenders.

So far, the bill has passed the state Senate but still needs approval by the state Assembly. It is expected to pass and be on the desk of Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger next week. Govenor Schwarzenegger has not taken a stance on the bill.
