The New York Times reports that LED ZEPPELIN’s two-disc DVD, Led Zeppelin DVD has sold 525,000 copies so far this year in the US. Released on May 27th and clocking in at nearly five and a half hours, guitarist Jimmy Page commented: “Our thing was playing live. In that sense, Zeppelin was very much an underground band. The fact that it became as successful as it did was something that was almost out of our control. We actually shunned commercialism, which is why so little official footage of the band has ever been seen before.”
2003 marks the 35th anniversary of the first rehearsal which brought together guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and late drummer John Bonham in the summer of 1968. Led Zeppelin has sold over 200 million albums worldwide.
Robert Godwin, one of the world’s top Led Zeppelin experts, stated in BW&BK #71: “This double DVD set has the full weight of the latest in 21st century audio and digital video enhancements. If you happen to have the opportunity to view it on a Hi-Def big screen with the full spectrum of Dolby 5.1 or DTS audio you can almost convince yourself that you are at the show.”
