According to reports by ESPN late Tuesday night, Lane Kiffin has agreed to become the next coach at Southern California.
Pete Carroll resigned earlier this week to take multiple postions, including head coach, with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.
The ESPN sources stated that Kiffin will bring his father and defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, as well as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron to Southern Cal with him. Wide receivers coach Kippy Brown is slated to be named interim head coach at Tennessee.
Kiffin, who just completed this first year at Tennessee where he led the Volunteers to a 7-6 record, was once offensive coordinator for the Trojans. He joined the USC staff in 2001 working with wide receivers and tight ends. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2005 after Norm Chow left USC for the same position with the Tennessee Titans.
Kiffin was hired by the Oakland Raiders in 2007, making him the youngest head coach in Raiders history. His tenure lasted only one complete season (4-12 record) and four games into his second season (after starting 1-3), he was fired.
Kiffin has been a lightning rod of controversy since his arrival at Tennessee who hired him after firing long time coach, Phillip Fulmer, in 2008.
