First-round voting for the 2005 Koufax Awards for Lefty Bloggers is under way. If you’re a diehard baseball fan, you probably can guess the reason for the competition’s name, but if not, the awards are titled in honor of Sandy Koufax, who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1955 to 1966 and was considered by many to be baseball’s best-ever left-handed pitcher.

This round of Koufax polling will whittle the packs of numerous nominees down to between six and 10 semifinalists in each category. My site, All Facts and Opinions, is nominated for three awards: Best Post, Best Series and Best Writing. Certainly I hope that you’ll vote for AF&O and encourage others to do the same (and I’ll love you forever whether you do or don’t), but I urge you to look at all the categories and show some love for your favorites – there are some truly terrific choices within all of them.

And please do us all a favor: If you have been nominated for Koufaxes, please let us know via comments. There are some excellent lefty bloggers here, and if you are one of them, it would be great to have the privilege of recognizing your work.

From contest host Wampum:
