Kanye West Was Right: Bush Official Opens Mouth, Inserts Foot

Alphaliberal.comKanye West ripped into George Bush recently at a charity fundraiser for hurricane Katrina on NBC –essentially calling him a racist. Despite many Republicans claiming they were closing their wallets after the remark, he still managed to raise 30 million dollars for Katrina victims.

It is without a doubt that Mr. West, like every other American, is entitled to his opinion and its no crime to express his opinion in a manner where it can be heard by as many people as possible.

The question remains, however, is Kanye West right?

A little-noted statement by Linda Chavez, from Mr. Bush’s own administration, appears to shed more light on what Mr. West must have meant. Her statement strongly supports Mr. West’s contention, not only with regard to Mr. Bush, but also with regard to his whole cabinet. Keep in mind that Ms. Chavez is the President of the Center for Equal Opportunity and former head of Bush’s U.S. Civil Rights Commission, to make her statement even more Orwellian. She observes as follows:

(1) In New Orleans, you are dealing with the permanently poor — people who don’t have jobs, are not used to getting up and organizing themselves and getting things done and for whom sitting and waiting is a way of life, . . .

(2) This is a natural disaster that is exacerbated by the problems of the underclass. The chief cause of poverty today among blacks is no longer racism. It is the breakdown of the traditional family.

Now we know it is a Republican talking point to shift the blame for the slow response from George Bush, the person ultimately responsible, to local Mayors or even the citizens of the flood, but Chavez’s blame-the-victim attacks are beyond the pale. Republicans like to talk in “code” to their base, but their “code” is easily deciphered by anyone with a pulse. Ms. Chavez’s statement decodes from “Republican talking point” to “ordinary English” as follows:

(1) Ni**ers are poor, unemployed and lazy. Its a way of life for them to sit on their ass all day. That is why they were caught in the flood. Don’t blame Bush — its their fault for not having the means or the will to get away in time.

(2) Ni**ers do not take care of their kids. That is why they remain poor. De Jure discrimination in society plays no part in their plight, so we can pretend it does not exist. We can just scapegoat black men for abandoning their families, and pretend our policies play no role in their suffering at all.

Alphaliberal.comOn the face of it, it appears Kanye West is probably right, not only about George Bush, but about his entire administration. They like to couch their language in a non-offensive manner, but Chavez’s statements have a clear meaning and represent the sentiments of the entire Republican establishment.

They believe it is mainly African-American’s inherent inferiority that keeps them down. They believe that their policies do nothing to harm African-Americans, but it is a chronic laziness and a tendency of young black males to abandon their families. They make no acknowledgment of the fact that whites held blacks down for hundreds of years and that blacks have never, as a culture, been allowed to climb out of that hole.

It is backward thinking like that from Chavez and the rest of the Bush administration that contributes to the widespread contention that their administration is racist. At the very least, one cannot fault Kanye West for having that opinion, especially when his culture has been on the short end of the stick so many times, and Bush’s response is to pretend like it never happened and to blame the victims.

    F YEAH!

    Very nice post, kick ass…

  • steve

so kanye west raised 30 million dollars by his lonesome? Bravo.

imagine how much he could have raised if he didnt open his big fat mouth.

kanye west…opening the wound of poor white-black relations. Job well done!

    Now who has the salt?

  • Will Awdry

Kanye West did what he was told. He’s not smart enogh to come up with that on his own. He’s parrotting what his handlers are telling him. By bashing the President and turning the event into drive by mud slinging he took away from all the good that everyone else there was trying to do. I won’t donate a nickel to anything that Kanye endorses.

  • steve

Ill second you on that. Im not playing on the same team as Kanye

  • JAMAL PRESONS

Thats True I also Beleive That President Bush Doesnt care why do you think it took almost 3 days for helicopters and other sources of help to come in and..if new orleans was a majority of white people they would have been in the next day……i mean of course the people are going to loot because they have no food….it just sickens me how white america puts us off everyday…..you see it in the streets everyday..if i walk down the street some white people make sure not to walk on the same side of the street as i do,because they think im going to do something, but no im not all black people arent the same i bet you any amount of money, that if condaliza rice was not in the position of power shes in or if she lost it all tomorrow, when she enters back into the real world, she’ll see how it is how, white america wont gave dang about her……

IT JUST SICKENS ME….AND IM ONLY 15

  • http://www.elitistpig.com Dave Nalle

Sorry, I missed something. Is what Linda Chavez said not true? Is it not something which every sociologist studying poverty in America pretty much agrees with? When did it become racist to tell the truth?

Kanye West took it upon himself to put his “nuts on the chopping block”, as my friend so eloquently put it…with that said, whether he was a puppet and/or his comments expressed how he felt, it took a lot of guts…I believe at least one comment of his touched all classes of Black America in some form. Some may not want to admit it…however, I’d be willing to bet that Kanye’s words mirrored your own thoughts if not your own words.

  • Melissa

Bravo for Kanye! He is my hero, He is 100% right, I support him on this one, I am a definitely a Kanye West fan now. He’s got balls and brains!

  • Chris

It’s sad how politics will cause you to close your wallets. You disagree with Kanye? THen don’t buy his music. But to take it out on the victims? You know what? Keep your money. If the money is sent with judgement, superiority, and arrogance, it’s beter to spend it on another gas-guzzler and a Support The Troops sticker that was amade in Taiwan.

  • Jason Lee

People Listen. Dont read if you only want to see what you think you should see. Kanye’s “Big Fat Mouth” as some of you so eloquently put it- Speaks the truth. DO NOT try to tell me that this disaster was treated the same as a lesser although serious disaster of Hurricane Andrew, because if you do… You have got to be either unable to understand world politics, or just think you know what the hell is going on.

Demographics for that region far outnumber midde-class caucasians, or middle class blacks- whatever. The point is that black people have always been traditionally neglected in a direct way in a not so direct path. Think about it before you actually post something dumb because you dont understand what I just said. I personally went without getting new groceries this week, and I gave my entire paycheck to my local red cross. Yes I am a black man and I am damn proud of it – But I am also proud to be someone who walks the walk. You can say bravo he raised 30 million dollars…. or Bravo Red cross raised 196.7 million. Or can you be that person to say – What the ****!!! You can raise 350 Million in a matter of hours from the US government yet be unable to act until 24-48-72hours into the New Orleans crisis. 350 Million dollars in a matter of hours… and total aid was in the billions.

After black america and those who see the problem spoke out- now its billions on the way but dammit – I was safe and warm in my house while my brothers and sisters were dying from toxic exsposure and no food and water while we thought the government would step in.

If you post anything about this blog and want to say what you feel – do so. But if you post while ignoring the facts and thinking you know whats going on while you dont… Please spare us the words for someone who gives a damn.

  • why bother?

You were safe and warm in your house while your brothers and sisters were slicing BLACK 7 year old throats, raping BLACK 5 year olds and beating old BLACK people to death in the Dome.

You are ignoring the facts and thinking you know whats going on while you don’t…

Your brothers and sisters have gotten screwed by New Orleans for generations, paid taxes for nothing, watched money earned by the city disappear into fat local pockets. Now it’s White America’s fault? Now it’s Bush’s fault? The local New Orleans police are clueless thugs? That’s Bush’s fault? Nobody can get their head out of their butt long enough to evacuate? They can’t stop playing electric slots and get out? That’s W’s fault? Sure. It’s ALWAYS someone ELSE’S fault. The LA Democratic Governor acts too slow, and that’s the President’s fault? The organization you like the LEAST surprisingly is at fault the MOST.

  • Scoobie

Kayne West – Gee what brilliance. Managed to single-handedly loose and estimated $20 million in support.

Wow what a bright man .. I wont call him if my town needs help.

    Scoobie –

  • dbaker6165

It’s simple… If what Kanye said is so wrong, then I will expect to read about Kanye being sued for defamation…. as for your wallets – between me and you, we both know you never planned to donate – Kanye was just the excuse for you to bail on your fellow americans :)

  • Scoobie

Dbaker – nice dribble. Do you really think that Kayne had any sense to his dribble? If so you need to read or watch it again. It is ignorant, stupid, and painfull to listen to. And also, his statement about the goverment is there to shoot down his people?? Did he mean he is one of the rapers or thieves, because I dont want to be numbered amoung them.

  • why bother?

Look at the gangs of New Orleans if you want to talk about excuses. Every one has one there.

  • Regina

Kanye was right on. I thought this was a government of the people, for the people and by the people. There is no excusing this administration for taking 4 days to drop water to people in need. Bush declared the area a disaster before the hurricane hit and didn’t call for FEMA or any government source to be prepared for the fall out. I am frightened that in case of a national disaster, we will use the same disaster plan utilized in New Orleans. The plan that calls for you to help yourself because the administration is focused on terror. Please tell me, if this hurricane wasn’t terror, what is? This wasn’t a good marketing tool for spreading democracy around the world.
They evacuated 600,000 poor people in Bangledesh during their recent hurricane. God help us all because this administration isn’t going to..
    Thank you Kanye

  • tia

i believe that kanye is right in the way that he feels. for someone to say that he was fed that information and did not have the sense to come up with that on his own is ridiculous.have some sense the man has to have some wit to get this far.

  • Scoobie

Tia – you sound bright. Please dont tell me you enjoyed that ignorant speach. I hurts to listen to it. Its dumb. And he also lost support money for making the statements. Is he going to repay the $20 million he lost???

  • balletshooz

Here is an example of why republicans get labeled “racist” by blacks, justitied or not.

look at the quotes from the same encampment where bill clinton and barbara bush went:

    Clinton

Clinton toured the shelter with his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York, and Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
Obama, picked up a little girl who brought him a small heart she had made in a makeshift daycare center at the shelter.
“What’s your name, sweetie? You look so pretty,” Obama said to the girl. “You made this heart and you decided to give it to Bill Clinton, didn’t you?”
The little girl, named Kearra, shook her head affirmatively.
“Well, I give you my heart,” Clinton said, giving the tiny toddler a hug. “You’re beautiful. Thank you for the heart.”

    Barbara Bush

“What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality,” she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media program “Marketplace.” “And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.”

    in other words, translated

clinton to black person – “i love you for who you are and what you can do”

bush to black person – “you are a lowlife, a refugee camp is a step up for you”

see why republicans have a race problem?

  • grayse

I agree with the others- if Kanye’s comment is the reason you wont contribute to “the cause” than you didnt want to contribute to begin with. This isnt KANYE’S cause- its a cause for AMERICANS. He is allowed his opinions… bigot Republicans voice theirs all day long. Its about time someone said something taboo, but true.

  • steve

bigot republicans, eh? Mr West proved himself as the bigot of bigots. He wasnt just addressing bush. he was addressing “white america” he only harmed his “people” for what he said.

    >>>”In New Orleans, you are dealing with the permanently poor”< <<

So I guess the black folk in N.O. are dumb and lazy that there is no chance for them? Nobody is permanently poor unless there dead. Kayne West mother is a Doctor, and he grew up upper middle class, and never once worried about where his meal was coming from. So he is proof your full of BS. It is an insult to black Americans to say they are permanently poor.

This problem wasn’t caused by people being too poor. It was caused by a Black Mayor who left hundreds of city vehicles just sit and go to waste when they could have been used like they were supposed to be.

You want to blame anyone, blame him. Also you provide zero proof for your slanderous accusations. In case you haven’t noticed President Bush has more people of color in top positions than the last 10 presidents combined. Condi Rice has the chance to be the first woman president for Pete sake.

Kayne West, is so deluded it is really just sad, which doesnt reflect on you positively.

  • http://www.steve-burks.com Steve Burks

WILL AUDRY: “I won’t donate a nickel to anything that Kanye endorses.”

SO THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE STARVING IS NOT ENOUGH OF A REASON FOR YOU TO DONATE? CHRIS PUT IT WELL ABOVE: “It’s sad how politics will cause you to close your wallets.”

SCOOBIE: “Do you really think that Kayne had any sense to his dribble?”

SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT. KANYE STUTTERED, SO HE MUST BE STUPID AND HIS COMMENTS INVALID? IT OCCURRED TO AT LEAST ONE OF US THAT KANYE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A LITTLE UPSET. WHICH ARE YOU, A BLACK COON OR A WHITE BIGOT?

Dave Nalle: “When did it become racist to tell the truth?”

THANKS FOR THE ENLIGHTENING, RHETORICAL QUESTION. I DIDN’T KNOW THAT ALL THIS STINK WAS ABOUT A COMMENT. I THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT THOUSANDS OF DEAD, STARVING AMERICAN BLACK PEOPLE SLEEPING ON HIGHWAYS, WATCHING THEIR BABIES WASTE AWAY FOR A WEEK, BUMPING BLOATED CORPSES AS THEY WADED THROUGH A SH-T OCEAN, WHILE POLITICIANS AND OPPORTUNISTIC MEDIA FIGURES RAN THEIR MOUTHS AND REPORTERS VYED FOR THE PULITZER. GLAD YOU STRAIGHTENED US OUT ON THAT ONE.

Let’s see, George Bush – more blacks and hispanics in the cabinet than any other President. More money to the African AIDS epidemic than any other administration – key point in his State of the Nation speech. Higher African American home ownership than at any time in the history of the United States.

But he doesn’t care about black people?

Can you folks be honest and realize that the Governor of LA screwed up… Bush didn’t do this. He didn’t conjure up a Hurricane and he didn’t deliberately withold aid afterwards.

    Stereotype FTW!!!!!

All of you who opt to generalize what a “Republican” is or what they stand for are just as guilty as those who stereotype “Black America”. I was in Biloxi last Thursday, and shits bad. My company donated building materials to help get a local Lowes up and running so their insurance company would let them open the doors to sell to local contractors. I couldn’t make it to N.O. proper, but if MS is an indicator then…damn.

Maybe the gov’t wasn’t as proactive as they should’ve been, but really, who was prepared for an incident of this magnitude? You?

And how very good of us to “Monday Morning QB” the relief effort. With every military base and landing strip in the gulf coast area in lousy shape, I’d imagine it was logistical nightmare for FEMA, State, and local anything to get any aid moving any quicker than it did.

As far as your man West and his comment about the shooting? Are you serious? Really, who is dumb enough to open fire at any DoD assest. Your kiddiing me? You open fire @ a USCG or Army Medivac, and don’t expect to get raked with gunfire? I mean these guys are going to shoot back, and damnit, they’re bloody good at it. What were those poor bastards thinking?

    /rant off

Critical opinions contribute ZERO to the current situation. Get out your checkbook, or put on your workboots and hit the road. These people need help, so get off the “Media-us vs.them-it’s all about race-Bush hates Blacks” bandwagon and lend a hand, and get with the program. Your either part of the problem or part of the soloution, pick one.

The strategy of the Democrat party is to give the poor minorities enough to make them able to eat (welfare) but not to give them enough to rise out of poverty. This is because as long as they are in poverty they will need the Democratic Party and continue to vote for them.

This is also the same strategy that Mao, Lenin, Castro and Chavez have used to gain complete control over their governments. They got support of the poor majority and got the power which led to burning the constitution and all of the people’s rights. The poor stayed poor, but the rich also became poor and the government became amazingly rich.

Now the only thing that seperates the dems and the commies are that in commie countries the poor were the majority. Now all that we need here is a few million people to become poor and the democrats can take the Senate, Supreme Court, Presidency, Governorships and Mayorships which would eventually lead to a single party state.

To know history is to know the future

  • Jeff

He’s only doing what Bob Dylan did as a young man. His heart was torn open by what he was seeing and he spoke from his gut. He said exactly what other black Americans deeply feel is true.

He said George Bush doesn’t really care about black people. I’d say Bush cares about them a little less than this young black man.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff had to actually post guards to prevent FEMA from cutting his only communications lines for a second time. FEMA turned back trucks full of supplies sent for those trapped in the Superdome. Meanwhile, Chertoff and Brown go on the air and spoke of what an excellent job their “team” was doing. This is what drove local La. officials over the edge.

Bush could have stepped in. He had the power. He let his unqualified cronies continue to mismanage the event. Not that he had the brainpower himself to handle it, but he had those around him who could have IF he’d only made a move.

Obviously black people might just get a feeling that Bush doesn’t care about them. So do many non-blacks too. Too bad they weren’t all children of oil execs. They’d have been saved after day one.

    Heads should roll alright.

  • http://www.elitistpig.com Dave Nalle

So, Balletshooz. Are you living in the same world as the rest of us or some weird though the lookingglass kind of world?

    >>clinton to black person – “i love you for who you are and what you can do”< <

Or perhaps I love you because you'll stay in your place and never question orders.

    >>bush to black person – “you are a lowlife, a refugee camp is a step up for you”

see why republicans have a race problem?<<

Did you actually READ Barbara Bush’s quote? I guess not. What she was saying is that the refugees appreciated the hospitality of Texans, and she implied that once they got here they realized that if they stayed in Texas they could get jobs and have the decent lives that being stuck in New Orleans under the thumbs of the democrat machine had denied them.

I am sick and tired of these so-called “political activists” in Hollywood putting their 2 cents in where it doesn’t belong! Does America really care what some rapper’s political views are? They’re entertainers not political anaylsts…you don’t see Ann Coulter or Chris Matthews trying to cut a rap album do you? Doesn’t anyone realize these people have just lost everything they own, they’re starving, jobless…innocent women are getting raped and killed out there??!! Enough political mumbo-jumbo…save that crap for the next election! You people call what Kanye did brave??? Bullshit, he’s just some ignorant publicity whore who’s joined the rat pack of Hollywood Bush-bashers!

  • Kurtis T.

My whole take on the situation is this. I myself am a war vet. I’ve done two tours of Iraq, one of Afghanistan, and one of Kosovo and I’m only 25 and yes proud to admit I’m black. When I first entered the service you couldn’t tell me there was anything my country does that’s wrong but over my 7 years in service I saw a lot of stuff that I know isn’t right and I can’t help but to wonder what if we weren’t investing all that money in war campaigns making other countries lives miserable and maybe put that money into FEMA? Maybe then this issue as to where the money is going to come from wouldn’t be raised and all you blind people who try to make Kanye out to be a “big mouth” wouldn’t have never had to hear him say anything in the first place? There’s only a few people in hip-hop that I can say I think makes a difference in this world not because they’re sick on the mic but because the just tell the truth and Kanye’s one of them so for him to all of you that don’t like what he said I’ll say it for him you all can kiss my ass. And also, even though the average white American won’t admit it you have to wonder if this was to have happened in West Virginia where the population is mostly white how long would the evacuation have taken to begin? I know nobody wants to be portrayed as a “white devil” but black people in America have always been treated as inferior, first as slaves and even afterwards with employment opportunities, housing, education, and last but not least by the systems such as welfare that control people and keep them in the same state of mind where they don’t want to become something more. What’s right is right and unfortunate for a lot of racist white people what’s wrong is wrong. And I could go on all day about the injustice of not just us but even the injustice of the American Indian, Hispanics, Asians, or anyone else that’s non-white even to include the Italians but I’m not because what’s obvious doesn’t even have to be told it’s already known.

  • Luke

“They believe it is mainly African-American’s inherent inferiority that keeps them down. They believe that their policies do nothing to harm African-Americans, but it is a chronic laziness and a tendency of young black males to abandon their families. They make no acknowledgment of the fact that whites held blacks down for hundreds of years and that blacks have never, as a culture, been allowed to climb out of that hole.”
    —————————————
If I’m the government, and I have to see my people as being equal under the law regardless of what they look like, then I’m in a difficult position when people seperate themselves into groups and then demand special treatment, and because they demand to be treated in the context that each group is seperate with it’s own culture, it’s own problems, and it’s own special needs, I have no other option but to define each group by these terms, if the group is mostly poor, then I must define this group as poor, if the group has a high rate of crime then I must define the group as having a tendency towards crime, and then I have to deal with those problems. But if people were just people, then I’d just add the majority of that groups poor, to the poor from other groups, and deal with the larger problem of poverty, but with america’s race politics, it’s impossible for people to just be people, why is a poor black family’s situation any different from a poor white family’s situation? They’re both poor. Is the white family’s ability to get out of poverty any different from a black family’s ability to get out of poverty? Is the government any more responsible for black poverty than white poverty?
Does the government owe something the decendants of victims who’re dead? Is the government responsible for crimes committed by people who died long ago? Is a white family, who’s ancestors were not slaves, 100% reponsible for being poor? While a black family can never be responsible for being poor, because their ancestors were slaves. Just please tell me, what the hell has happened to personal accountability?
On the surface it may seem obvious that George Bush doesn’t care about black people, i’d say it’s not in his nature to care more about them than anybody else, look at it this way, ‘you’re black, and you’re poor, but mainly you’re poor, and it’s no ones problem but your own how you get out of that situation, we’ll assist you no more and no less than we would for any other citizen of this country, regardles of whether they be black white yellow red brown or green’
This is how the liberals think ‘you’re black, and you’re poor, but mainly you’re black, and all of your disadvantages stem from that one fact, you are powerless to overcome those disadvantages without our assistance, because you can never succeed in your struggle towards prosperity by the power of your own will and determination, because everyone who is not us is keeping you down, you can never be held responsible for the short-comings of your own life’

As I read the initial comments on this site, I was appalled at what I saw. Talk about dividing America… What Kanye West spoke of is what Kanye fells as an African-American male. As an educated African-American Mississippian, I can not find fault with many of his words. In order to understand it, you have to live it. Many majority race Americans find it hard to understand what minorities go through because they have never been through it. I have a juris doctor degree from an esteemed university, and still find that the color of your skin outweighs everything else.
While living in the capitol city of a state hit hard by Katrina, it really saddened my heart to see my state’s coastline completely obliterated by the storm. 28 miles of coast line in Mississippi GONE!!! “Sorry people, but help is still on its way!” That was a full week ago. Don’t know why it has taken so long, but if it takes a spontaneous blurb by West to wake up America to understand our trauma and pain, then so be it. It never ceases to amaze me of how much easier it is for people to sit and criticize when they do not understand at all! CNN and FOXNEWS cannot accurately tell of the plight of Mississippi and Lousiana. I have seen it all my life, and now the world gets a glimpse, a slanted glimpse, and wishes to try to analyze. Until you can see and understand this for yourself, live it and breathe it like I do, as an African-American Mississippian, I would ask that you respect those actually going through this tough time and think before you write…

  • steve

As a doctoral, black, female mississippian…you must have voted conservative. you must have noticed that the liberal stronghold in states such as mississipi keep the poor living in the lifestyle they are in.

conservatives praise do gooders…people who try to better themselves. people who do not burden the government for living expenses most americans earn.

also, if you are indeed a doctor…I am sure you wouldnt like to give 35-45% of your check away…from your hard earned pay. you must support tax cuts… there is no way you would have voted liberal. you seem intelligent.

    Restrain yourself, Davis. Restrain yourself.

  • Makavelli

I concur with those who have said that if Kanye made you not want to give then you didn’t want to give anyway. I only know of one other rapper who would have had the balls to say what Kanye said and that was Tupac.

In the imortal words of Tupac updated by me:

    How can we be free

Sometimes I wonder about your race
Because you must be blind as hell
2 think we live in equality while my people rot in jail
where the shores of the Gulf
    are full of Afrikan corpses
    Or some poor brothers
    dying in the Armed Forces
This so called “Home of the Brave”
As if they forgot they once had slaves.
Why wasn’t anybody backing us up!
Y’all saw the crooked Government jacking shit up
Now I bet some punk will say I’m racist
Look at your HIStory it’s in the pages
So I give a damn what you think of me
I see bodies down in New Orleans.

machiavelli…eh? do you even know who machiavelli is, or what he is known for? let it be known…that he is not an alias for a dead rapper. he wrote a book called the prince. so machiavelli…since you are so smart…is it better to be loved, or feared?

tupac did have balls. BIG COJONES!!! his balls got himself shot! what was it, 10 times?!? thats more than 50 cents!!! maybe kanye will learn a lesson from tupac…

  • Makavelli

It is better to be feared I’ve read every page!

  • LaTasha C

I agree with KanYe. Everything shown on the news of the after math has white people going though a house that was filled 4ft with water. They are going through their property with their family (because they were rescued). Every minority family I see on television is pleading for someone to either look for/or rescue their family. The only way they are being able to make the request is because they swam to higher ground, not because they were rescued. While we have troops overseas (and not locating Osama) we need to have more troops looking for and caring about what the fuck is going on in our own country.

  • Makavelli

Got killed? So did Malcom, Martin, Medger…, we could go on and on but what’s your point. If you notice Kanye doesn’t talk about Thug life so he is going about it a different sparked by that martyr we call TUPAC or Makaveli. And yes he himself was more than just an acronym for those who loved him we understand the metaphorical meaning behind the name change talk to me some day and I’ll explain!

P.S. As much as Tupac talked about Thug Life he talked about change Thug Life was just how he got the attention of those he needed to reach.

  • steve

I am sure tupac would have been as outspoken as west. NBC should have known better than to put someone on stage who believes that the government created AIDS to wipe out black people. shame on NBC.

Kanye West should keep his “MOUF” shut. He is a fake. He is a millionare who was opportunistic in using airtime to help people for his political agenda instead. he doesnt care about black people either.

I could almost picture him “rollin out” in his gas guzzling H2..26 inch “spinners” and the whole nine yards…chillin like a new orleans villan. he could rape and pillage with the others…that would be the GANGSTA thing to do, wouldnt it?

If Kanye doesn’t like it here…or his wallet isnt big enough for his voice to be heard…he should move to france with all the other commies.

  • IdahoCarol

It really irks me to hear people on here pointing fingers for political gain, especially in the midst of America’s most deadly natural disaster. Apparently no one remembers how we pulled together,as a nation, in the “good old days” and faced adversity arm in arm. It’s high time to stop the name calling and attempts to cast blame on everyone else.
Quit whining and help these Americans who desperately need our immediate unconditional help. I’m sick of the racial slurs on both sides.

  • steve

kanye west opened a can of worms, im saying my piece to close it.

maybe black folk will learn to respect bush after he repairs the south. maybe they will see the leader who has been there the last four and a half years.

sadly, I find this highly unlikely. time will tell.

  • Makavelli

Steve at first I thought you were somewhat intelligent I mean you knowing about the Prince and all but then you kept talking. They say let a fool talk enough he will show his worth. At first you tell someone to get their GED then you blast Kanye for being wealthy stop contradicting yourself do you want us broke and dumb or maybe rich and not speak. Yeah you really want equality.

  • steve aka the NOTORIOUS G.O.P

for your information makavelli, I am personally upset that Kanye West is using this natural disaster to promote his new album, as well as his political agenda. Its sad, but true. I didnt even know who the man was before his ill-planned rant on NBC. and by “ill” I dont mean talented. I mean it as in a lack of planning.

I suggested to the other blogger to at least attempt to speak the english language. I did not understand the ebonics lingo he was typing. (look back, if you must) so, I told him to go and get his Good Enough Diploma.

As far as Kanye West goes. All I ask of you is to question is legitimacy. He is a multi-millionare who spews rancid lyrics about a lifestyle he no longer lives. in his lyrics…the man suggested that the government is involved in a conspiracy to kill black people. how could you not call this man a racist? he is absurd!

Just because I am conservative…it doesnt mean I am one for inequality. I hope you recognize that. I treat every man as my equal. If I happen to disagree with them, so be it.

I took time with this post, hopefully clarifying myself. Hope you read it.

  • Ty

    PLEASE READ THIS

There will never be change until we understand each others pain. I wish we could switch bodies if only for a day so we could understand each other better but we can’t. As a black man I can attest to seeing first hand the invisible yet fortified barriers that we as a people face everyday. We each have a responsibility as human beings to make sure that we treat each other equally, but I have a better chance of sprouting wings and flying through the sky unfortunately in our present state. I wish we as humans would not have to debate back and forth over a blog about the opinion of one man. We have a long way to go before there will be change and each of us has to do his or her part so that we can evolve and get a better grasp of what should be done to help us all move forward. All of you can say what you want, but how do you truly feel inside in regard to race being an issue in this society. If your black (human) how many times have you checked yourself and made the steps to rise above the walls that are set in front of you obviously we know that they are there at times, and I know it SUCKS and in a perfect world it would not be that way but try harder adversity has made us stronger and stronger and it will continue to as long as we exist. I’m nowhere close to were I want to be in life but I will make it no matter what or who stands before me. Unfortunately that’s life; understand the reason that some not all so called white people (other fellow humans) treat minorities like they are inferior. And if you are white (human), how many times have you tried to genuinely understand were the feelings that Black Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics Americans, etc…(your fellow humans) are coming from. The people who really control society are happy that we quarrel back and forth so that we over look the real issues that we need to deal with to make this world a better place for us all. I guarantee the top 5% aren’t concerned with the issues we are faced with globally unless it increases their power. We all need to stop acting like many of the issues stated in the previously writings and many more don’t exist and deal with them with love and understanding first before having an opinion based on you wanting to have the perfect answer to the current issue of today. Wake up people it’s time for us all to be accountable for what we do and how we feel and how it affects the people around us and those we will never meet.

    Each one Teach One!

    WE ARE ONE!

Steve or the notorious G.O.P.,I want to get back with you on a few misguided statements you made. You said this a few times at first you said, “NBC let…..someone on stage who believes that the government created AIDS to wipe out black people….” The second time you said, “the man suggested that the government is involved in a conspiracy to kill black people. how could you not call this man a racist? he is absurd!”

Well I’ll tell you how and don’t just turn me off please follow. I always say do your research before you speak even if you don’t believe Kanye’s conclusions if you researched you would understand the landscape from which his conclusions were drawn. One you talk as if the government is above spreading diseases in the Black Community. Check your HIStory, can you say Tuskegee 1932 – 1972?

The Tuskegee study of untreated syphilis in the Negro male is the longest no therapeutic experiment on human beings in medical history. The strategies used to recruit and retain participants were quite similar to those being advocated for HIV/AIDS prevention programs today.

So don’t get all mighty and think your government is above the bullshit! You don’t have to agree but don’t knock Kanye for what he believes especially when HIStory is on his side. Has the government ever compensated those victims for that? That’s a real question I really don’t know but the point I’m making is Kanye’s statements in his lyrics aren’t coming from some misguided rich guy it’s supported by your governments HIStory.

I recently listened to the Black Caucuse. How can such bright people speak such lunicy? They grant the right to rob and steal jewelry and watches and oh and food. Then they say there is no justice. Huh? Huh? Truth is a straight line and this is nothing but circles……..

    David Gregory Story

The activist readily acknowledged that he had referred to Republicans as “white racist thugs” and called the United States “the most dishonest, ungodly, unspiritual nation that ever existed in the history of the planet.”

But, when Gregory hesitated in his responses, Hannity turned to Morano for confirmation.

“You don’t have to confirm what I said,” Gregory charged. “I’ve already said it. So I don’t need no white boy to come on and say yes, he said it.”

Surprised by Gregory’s reply, Hannity repeated, “No white boy? No white boy?” and asked Gregory if he wanted to apologize to Morano for calling him a racially charged term.

Am I the only one to notice that this blog is based entirely on lies?

Linda Chavez is not and never was a member of George W. Bush’s administration.

Lie #2 insists that Pres. Bush is responsible for the rescue effort. The feds are not responsible for natural disaster rescue operations. They are the responsibility of the local state government, as in Gov. Kathleen Blanco. The feds cannot move in, until the local state’s governor asks them to.

    3. There is nothing racist in Chavez’ words. Black and white socialists say the same sort of things all the time. You are race-baiting Chavez, merely because she is a Republican.

To borrow from Mary McCarthy, every word in this blog is a lie, including “and” and “the.” If I was as pathetic a racist liar as the poster, I’d write anonymously, too!

As for those posters who claim to be black and who have supported the blogger, when you say things like “Kanye West spoke the truth of African American males” and “You have to live it,” do you realize how stupid and racist you sound? Kanye West has known only privilege his entire life. He has never for one minute known want or discrimination. Imagine a white guy saying, “David Duke speaks the truth of white males” and “You have to live it.” Anyone who defends Kanye West is as full of crap as the anonymous blogger at the top.

“A little-noted statement by Linda Chavez, from Mr.

“(1) In New Orleans, you are dealing with the permanently poor — people who don’t have jobs, are not used to getting up and organizing themselves and getting things done and for whom sitting and waiting is a way of life, . . .

“(2) This is a natural disaster that is exacerbated by the problems of the underclass. The chief cause of poverty today among blacks is no longer racism. It is the breakdown of the traditional family.”

  • Will Awdry

Hey, I just checked with the Red Cross. They said they have a donation from Kanye West for $50. What a sport! Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) was down for $25 but they can’t cash the check because he misspelled “cross”.

  • Will Awdry

You want to know why it took a week for a Federal response to Katrina? Ask The Governor of Louisiana.

Mississippi got assistance the next day because the Governor there called D.C. and asked for it. The (democrat) bee atch that runs Louisiana hired the former head of FEMA and decided to try and go it alone.

  • wilk

Kanye West is an extremely ignorant individual. In a time like this we need to pull together and not push each other apart. If Kanye really cared about what was going on he would have kept his mouth shut. Racism is still a problem in the world today, but there is also a thing called reverse racism, and it seems to be growing in popularity. Kanye is just trying to get attention so his records will sell. It didn’t take that long to get aide to them. One thing that held it up was the fact that the helicopters and other help transporters were being shot at by EVERYBODY. Kanye West is IGNORANT!

  • Makavelli

Hey Wilk that story didn’t hold up either they were shots being fired to get the attention of the rescuers that kept that flying by people in need of help. So the only ignorant person is you may not have known that because you didn’t hear that on MSNBC but let me help you out here is a clip that may make some since out of that particular issue.

    http://tinyurl.com/83p7f

  • yolli

i think that Kanye was right abbout what he said. Nobody can blame it on the governor because it was the governments fault because they were supposed to evacuated people themselves. If you people will read the newspapers and listen to the news carefully you will see. I still don’t understand how all of those news crew people got in but nobody could get in to give the people food and water. Why didn’t Bush bring them food when he “TOURED” New Orleans? Why didn’t he visit the black communities? was he afraid of what may happen? You people have to pay attention to the little things like that. Just like the other people were saying it don’t matter what Kanye said, you can still donate money. Ya’ll were not going to donate maoney to begin with. For those of you who think that it is not a racist thing it is a racist thing. BUSH DONT CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE!!! He do little things that contribute to the black community for you blinded republicans to think that he cares. Open your eyes people. He took money from FEMA so that is why they could not properly evacuate all of the people. As my African Aerican Teacher Mr. Walker always say: ” a drunk mans words are a sober mans thoughts.” Not saying Kanye was drunk but that is what many people were thinking. You have to expand your horizon.

  • Opal Lynn Dunton-Hurst

Hopefully some of these people will rethink what they wrote once heard all the facts in regards to the flooding in New Orleans. The US Govt knew about the aftermath of a huge hurricane hitting the Gulf years ago. There were reports on the levee and how the flooding of New Orleans would happen if it weren’t to be fixed. The cost would have been around 2oo,ooo dollars to fix, and due to the Bush admin just shining it off as nothing…we the American people are spending 52 billion dollars a day. Now if Mr. West’s comments didn’t have a shroud of truth in it….why wasn’t the levee fixed years ago to prevent this and save the people of New Orleans? And why did it take over three days to get help from the President? Oh wait….because he was on his 31-day vacation in Crawford, Texas. You can take Kanye West’s comment however you want, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that all of this could have been prevented and a lot of money could be saved.

    God Bless America.

  • Carla

If people didn’t want to give money after Kanye West’s comments, then they didn’t really have the heart to give at all.
If they TRULY wanted to give and help the survivors of Hurricana Katrina, Kanye’s speech would not have deterred them.

  • Will Cate

I’m sorry, just what exactly did Linda Chavez say that wasn’t true?

  • Tam

Not all people in New Orleans are black that were left. Not all blacks in New Orleans are gang bangers and looters. Not all were murdering and raping. Don’t kill all those people based on the foolish acts of a small minority. There were good people there, poor and middle class-black and white. Not everyone had the means to get out. Unless you were there or heard from someone who was there you don’t know the whole story. Your opinions are futile. No need arguing. If it was you in this situation you would be singing a whole notha song, baby!

  • Sherma Gibbs

The response was just as slow in Mississippi and Alabama as in Louisana. I think incompetence the better explanation than racism….although Bush knows well how to play to the racist base he has. Look back to his Bob Jones University beginning in the race for President. Too bad New Orleans wasnt a foreign country..we could have invaded it in no time flat..strange we can go anywhere in the world we want to within 24 hours to kill.

  • Long Live Freedom n Peace

Im not african american I just support the black panther party I am an arab and u republicans ara polluting my mind and im not going to agree with the democrats either

  • Long Live Freedom n Peace

BUT i agree with democrats more…

  • Tam

The only thing I have a problem with is ignorant, foolish, stereotypical people making degrading and stupid comments about other races when they have never walked a mile in their shoes. Especially a race that has been opressed for hundreds of years. I am African American/Cherokee and “white” blood also runs through my lineage. I am by no means racist, but I know first hand that it exists and blacks are not always treated fairly–its just the but naked truth–along with some other minorites. I am a good black woman. I am not lazy and I don’t sit around waiting. I work hard! So the republican chic that said that is only speaking of a fraction of people–and it isn’t just black folk. I know some lazy trifling white folks too!! I come from a family where a lot of people are hard workers and some are college educated and many have good jobs, homes and are good people! Chew on that! My heart goes out to those who are poor and needy and lost everything–regardless of color. Side note: People black, white, yellow, red and the like are all helping in this situation–those are the people to be commended! Spread love–kill the hate!! Jesus is Lord–bow down.

  • steve

Long Live Freedom n Peace. You need a hug. Shalom!

  • Ryan

wow. reading these comments about how people that didn’t donate because of kanye then they never really wanted to donate at all… How dumb and ignorant can you be? He never should have made any of those comments if he knew that that could possibly happen. If he knew saying that was going to lose them money, then it’s his own selfish fault for saying what he said. He put the lives of thousands of people on hold because he just had to say his stupid remark. And whoever said that the marshal law declared in Louisiani was just to shoot black people because that’s what ya’ll are making it out to be. whites, asains, hispanics, and every other race can be shot too. But yet Bush is a racist for declaring marshal law? Man you people are some morons

  • Michael

This is yet another failure of George W. Bush. He has, in his presidency, ultimately failed in his role as protector of the American citizenry. I has neither the intelligence or humanity to fulfill his role as President of the United States. He needs to be impeached before he can do more harm. We need new leadership.

  • Eric

Ok, how is a natural disaster bushs fault? its not! big surprise. Kanye west says that they are shooting his people, Guess what! when you shoot at rescue helicopters, they shoot back… big shocker. Also, he says that black people were just looking for food, he must not have been watching the news when i saw a guy take a big tv out of someones home. Excuse me, how could i be so rude, of course he needs that tv, it should be given to him because his ancestors were oppresed. Wake up kanye! you cant eat a tv! but you find a way to blame it on bush. The bottom line is that he is one that floats along with all of those other people who want handouts from the government because they “deserve” it. Some of you might think i hate black people or am very racist. Im not, half of my friends are black and they dont act arrogant and ignorant like kanye and his loose blabbering on a charity program. My friends work and dont expect handouts and they seem to be doing just fine. You might say that his daddy is probably rich. Wrong.. he grew up in the ghettos of detriot, he realises that handouts from the gov. will not get him anywhere so he should get a job for himself. What a concept

  • glad

I have to agree if kanye put you supposedly off donating you never had any intentions to donate at all. However he articulated what a lot and we are talking a worldwide audience was thinking when looking at the disaster reaction. In sunny Europe 5 days is a hell of a long time to sit on your hands before you act.

Actually someone has put it all in a song at macjams and it hits the spot very well.

I agree with Kanye West, just on the strength of the length of time those people have been done there. When the sunnami hit in FL the whole deal was clear in a matter of weeks, and the situation was on the news for a matter of days. Here it is weeks later and it’s still a apparent problems. I feel like if Bush really wanted to, he has the ability to get thise people out of there, and put them where they at least have a chance to rebuild their lives, but it’s much easier to leave them down there to either die of some diease, starve, dehighdrition, or even allow them to kill each other then to help. That’s one less problem he has to worry about (in his eyes) the black population being decreased. So I say thumbs up to Kanye, I couldn’t have said it better myself.

what are you saying? minorities are brainwashing themsevles to keep themselves subjugated?

    that makes little sense.

“The “Democrat”party IS black, minorities, etc.”

No, the people who elect the white DemocRats are poor minorities. There are three kinds of people in the DemocRatic party: Sheep (poor, mostly minorities), Sheep herders (democRats in power) and last [edited] that are blind about this.

Excuse me Mr. Dave Nalle, but obviously you have missed something. What Linda Chavez said is not only not true but it is exactly the type of comment that adds to racial issues in this country. If it is true that every sociologist studying poverty in America agrees with this statement, then that is also something that adds to the racial problem.

No, Mr. Dave Nalle, it is not racist to tell the truth. The question is who’s truth are you speaking of?

LLF+P…you were the same cat who praised the black panthers the other day. You are my favorite! the world needs people like you…haha j/k

george bush isnt extreme. you grew up during someone “riding the wave” during his two term tour of the white house. you are actually witnessing someone act as president; someone doing their job… not someone who dishonored the oval office by spewing his man juice everywhere.

  • Jonathan

You are a typical right winger. You still can’t get off the fact the Clinton was being a man just like every one of us in this world. It didn’t effect his presidency a bit. In fact, it probably allowed him to work harder due to all that stress realease. Bush has screwed this county up beyond belief. Katrina is another glaring example…

There’s only one truth here, and Linda Chavez touched on part of it. The truth here is that the party which promulgates a racist policy is, just as it always has been, the Democratic party. Its policies and politics depend on keeping african americans in a state of poverty, chaos and dependence on the government. Give them a chance, get them decent jobs, move them out from under the thumb of the Democratic machine, and they start to vote for a better life for themselves just like other sensible Americans.

Does anyone here live or has ever lived in New Orleans? I lived in the greater New Orleans area for 22 years and I can tell you that poor folks seldom if never get a chance to get out of poverty.

    1. Education is poor and underfunded
    2. Rich Whites and Creoles (passe blanche or pass for white) are reluctant to advance any African Americans
    3. Even if they did make some money to get out of the projects, they are stigmatized for life.

The poor in New Orleans are NOT lazy, they have simply given up. They are people who are disenfranchized, and forget by all.

It is easy to say when you have the right color skin and connections that those who are poor are poor because they choose it. People of privilege can’t see the entitlement they are born with. Picture yourself black and poor for many generations. How can you imagine anything else if it is all you have seen?

Kanye West did the best he could with the little time he had to make America think about what is really going on.

This is the most depressing conversation I’ve encountered yet on blogcritics. The sheer ignorance of this “steve” is astonishing:

STEVE: you must have been in the same english class as kanye west, yo.

Thank you, race-baiting scholar. Now, which English class taught you to write like this:

STEVE: kanye west opened a can of worms, im saying my piece to close it.

In one sentence, I count three errors in capitalization, an egregious comma fault, and a missing apostrophe. That’s five errors, in thirteen words. You’d need a truly liberal teacher to give you anything but an F.

And I assure you, I wouldn’t pull rank as a pedant, if you hadn’t tried to impress us with your putative knowledge of humanism. You know who Machiavelli is? Good for you. You can quote one or two aphorisms? Aren’t you special. Some of us have actually *read* Machiavelli, and I can say with some certainty that you’re pretty much the last guy I’d want to sit down with over a beer to discuss the Discourses on Livy.

My favorite “steve” quote: “As a doctoral, black, female mississippian…you must have voted conservative. you must have noticed that the liberal stronghold in states such as mississipi keep the poor living in the lifestyle they are in.”

First of all, Jethro, Andrea mentioned that she was a “juris doctor.” That does not make her “doctoral,” you moron: a J.D. is a standard professional law degree. And your insight, that having such a degree means that she must have voted Republican, is beyond ignorant: one of the loudest Republican complaints is that the Democrats are a party of lawyers.

There have been some admirable voices in this conversation: Kurtis T., a man who’s done two tours in Iraq, one in Afghanistan and one in Kosovo — at the age of 25. Kurtis clearly knows a bit more about what it means to be black in America than “steve,” our resident redneck; and I suspect he knows a fair bit more about what it means to be in harm’s way. (I might have you wrong, “steve”, but I sense you’re the lowest form of chickenhawk.)

So when I hear that Kanye’s words resonate with Kurtis, and that he’d rather see some of the war chest poured into FEMA, well — I take him seriously.

Personally, I don’t think that Bush is a racist (although concerning you, “steve,” I have no doubts); no, Bush merely has contempt for the *poor*, which unfortunately includes a huge swath of the black population. He has no problem with wealthy black Republican, like Condi Rice — she is by all accounts a truly close friend. It is one of W’s few positive attributes — perhaps his only positive attribute: he seems to be genuinely color-blind, and in fact actively pro-Hispanic.

On the other hand, when Kurtis says that Kanye speaks for him, it becomes clear that Bush has a serious, serious problem: even though he may be personally free of hatred, he clearly comes across, politically, as the lowest form of hillbilly cracker. Bush is not “steve”, but he might as well be, for all the good he’s done black America.

  • http://www.elitistpig.com Dave Nalle

It’s nice to see someone on the other side with the minimal common sense necessary to realize how non-racist Bush actually is. Most manage to ignore that fact despite all the obvious evidence.

On the classist issue you’re making a common mistake, however. Republican policies are sometimes seen as classist because they don’t target the poor specifically for tailored handouts. That doesn’t mean that they are anti-poor. The GOP philosophy is that rather than give a handout to the poor it’s better to create jobs and a better economy and opportunities for them to advance themselves, because a handout is only good until it’s spent and a job goes on and on keeping someone a productive and self-supporting part of society.

It comes down to which you’d rather see, a tax cut which creates more jobs and more wealth for the poor as well as everyone else, or that same money spent to keep people poor and dependent on government – but likely buying their loyalty along the way.

    Dave

  • http://www.dysmedia.com Douglas Anthony Cooper

    Two things:

First, Dave have you *any* proof that Bush’s economic policies have aided anyone but the rich? Yes, we’re all familiar with the trickle-down theory (which W’s father dismissed as “voodoo economics”); not many are aware that Reagan ended up *raising taxes* Do you really think that repealing the estate tax would somehow aid people whose “estates,” such as they were, have been washed away by the flood? It’s a cynical gift to the rich; and so obviously nothing but that… note that Republicans have been embarrassed to talk about it much in the past few days (even though it was at the very top of their agenda prior to the hurricane).

Second, I just re-read my last post, and realized that I was addressing Kurtis and Andrea in the third person, and “steve” in the first person, which is the opposite of how things should be. Kurtis, Andrea: I apologize. And Kurtis, frankly I think it’s astonishingly honorable that you would fight for this country, even though it’s lousy with “steves.”

  • http://www.dysmedia.com Douglas Anthony Cooper

Oh, and Dave? If tax cuts do what you say — and we’ve seen the most radical tax cuts in modern history — then how do you account for this:

“A report by the U.S. Census Bureau released the same week Katrina hit the nation’s southeast announced that the national poverty rate rose for the fourth straight year despite continuing growth in production and political rhetoric that the nation’s economy is on the upswing.”

Now, agreed, this comes from a biased source. About as biased as they come. The type of news outfit that has definite opinions regarding poverty and political rhetoric:

    Fox News.

  • http://dysblog.blogspot.com Douglas Anthony Cooper

(Er, in my earlier comment, make that “second person” for steve; hate to offend his profound grammatical sensibilities.)

  • Paco

Fuck the poor if they can’t find Jesus. And fuck the federal government for taking my money to help lazy poor people. Why waste resources on them? That goes for old people too. And the disabled, people with HIV, mentally retarded people (all dumb-o-crats, ha ha), and gay people. They are immoral wastes time. God put them on this world for a reason, let them find Him or perish. And evolution is a MYTH! You people talk about science and “evidence”. Dumbasses! You don’t need facts when you’ve got faith. Wipe out the people who are too weak or immoral to fend for themselves, you instantly have a better society. AND nuke the middle East. And China. Fuck it, nuke ‘em all. And you know whose fault this whole disaster was? the stupid morons who are too lazy and stupid to evacuate. If they had just taken their lazy asses to the bus depot, they would have survived. Katrina was God’s will, and his sphinctor is bigger than all of our’s put together, so be afraid.

Now, before you all get your panties in a bunch, all of the above is a (fairly obvious) troll. No, I am not a fundie biggot asshole. I am simply taking the Republican logic to the extreme: if people cannot help themselves, FUCK THEM! Let the market take care of everything. Privatize schools, healthcare, prisons, ALL OF IT. Make money.

Silly queefs, don’t you see what looting the public sphere does (starving federal programs aimed at providing the means of survival to those in need & during crises)? It creates an environment where people feel they don’t belong, a society on the brink of destruction. All it takes is a lapse in law enforcement, and you have absolute terror, as people turn on one another. You know why? It is something you are very familiar with- short term gain, the Mecca of capitalism. If you can get ahead, consequences be damned, do it. Tax cuts for the rich!!! Dykes need to be replaced? Who will be affected if they fail? poor people? FUCK ‘EM! I’m busy countin’ my Ben Franklins. Make more money, everything else will take care of itself. What’s the phrase? “A kinder, gentler fascism?” Indeed.

So here’s my question for you LOOTERS of the public integrity, pillagers of the social fabric that holds us all together as a society:
When you are done maximizing your profit, externalizing all costs onto society (healthcare, minimum standards, etc) in pursuit of the same, focusing on short term profits and using coercion to back it all up (domestically as well as around the world), will you have created a world your grandchildren will want to live in?

ps regarding comment#44 – the democrats are a shade less slimy than republicans. but arguing about which is better or worse pretty much amounts to whether you’d prefer to eat shit, or eat shit with taco sauce. The two party system is as bankrupt as any institution on the face of this planet. Wake me in time for the Revolution.

  • D

From what I’ve heard and seen so far, it looks to me that it was poor planning and very unacceptable response time from the people who are being paid to be well prepared and respond to these types of disasters……whether or not Bush is a racist well who give’s a toss. He’s a self proclaimed idiot so why even bother to accuse or defend him.

Those of you who say they will not donate or help because of what K said well pat yourselves on the head because you’ve proven how small your minds are…for crying out loud your fellow Americans need your help..White or Black!! Who cares about what he said…people are dying, without homes, without food and you are arguing about what??????

America really needs to spend some time sorting out it’s own backyard. Probably wouldnt have been this bad if the American people voted in the right President instead of a war mongrel!

I find it strange…US spent God knows amounts of money to send troops to Iraq etc to fight an unwanted war…now ask yourselves is Bush willing to put the same amount of money towards rebuilding and helping those affected by the disaster?

p.s Please tell your government to leave NZ alone…we are a nuclear free country and Hell will freeze before we allow nuclear armed or powered ships into our ports.

  • cheyenne

okay ive took random things people said. read this.

Ms. Bush, after viewing these people’s tragedy, was quoted saying:

Almost everyone I’ve talked to says we’re going to move to Houston. What I’m hearing which is sort of scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this—this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them.” [emphasis added]

If she is serious she must have a very low opinion of poor minorities in America to believe losing your home, the lives of your friends and relatives, your job, your peace, and your security was in some way “working out well.”

    Thats just HORRIBLY WRONG!

    ——————————————————————————–

    Barbara Bush

“What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality,” she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media program “Marketplace.” “And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.”

    in other words, translated

clinton to black person – “i love you for who you are and what you can do”

bush to black person – “you are a lowlife, a refugee camp is a step up for you”

See why republicans have a race problem?

i think that Kanye was right abbout what he said. God help us all because this administration isn’t going to..
we have troops overseas (and not locating Osama) we need to have more troops looking for and caring about what the fuck is going on in our own country.

One has to wonder when Laura Bush called Kanye West’s statements “disgusting”, what she was referring to. Was she calling Kanye West a “disgusting” human being? Was she calling all poor minorities “disgusting”? Was Laura Bush finding “digusting” the notion that a minority, once a college dropout, who has now achieved success, should express a deeply held opinion in public?

All your armies, All your fighters,
All your tanks and all your soldiers.
Against a boy holding a stone,
    Standing there all alone.
In his eyes I see the sun,
In his smile I see the moon.
And I wonder I only wonder.
Who is weak and who is strong,
who is right and who is wrong.
And I wish I only wish.
That the truth has a tongue.

    go there

and listen to that lady talk.

she was saying stuff like “then things started getting really bad by the second day the people that were there that we were feeding and everything. we had no more food no more water we had nothing we were watching helicopters they were helping other people out but they would hover us and tell us hi they wouldnt drop us any food and water. nothing,. alligators were eating people they had all kinds of stuff in the water they had dead babies floating dead people floating. we had to walk around 100s of thousands of dead people. we could understand that the police couldnt help us but we couldnt understand why the national guard couldnt help us……..”

I find it strange…US spent God knows amounts of money to send troops to Iraq etc to fight an unwanted war…now ask yourselves is Bush willing to put the same amount of money towards rebuilding and helping those affected by the disaster?

Now if Mr. West’s comments didn’t have a shroud of truth in it….why wasn’t the levee fixed years ago to prevent this and save the people of New Orleans? And why did it take over three days to get help from the President? Oh wait….because he was on his 31-day vacation in Crawford, Texas. You can take Kanye West’s comment however you want, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that all of this could have been prevented and a lot of money and people could be saved. And if people didn’t want to give money after Kanye West’s comments, then they didn’t really have the heart to give at all.
If they TRULY wanted to give and help the survivors of Hurricana Katrina, Kanye’s speech would not have deterred them.

This is yet another failure of George W. Bush. He has, in his presidency, ultimately failed in his role as protector of the American citizenry. I has neither the intelligence or humanity to fulfill his role as President of the United States. He needs to be impeached before he can do more harm. We need new leadership. Bush has screwed this county up beyond belief. Katrina is another glaring example…

What I find puzzling is that conservatives despise & deplore The Poor, yet refuse to allow them the means to limit their numbers via viable, inexpensive birth control. How psychotic is that? If they want to reduce their numbers, white, black, or otherwise, one would think the Right would be the ones most aggressively pushing birth control in any form. Instead, they set up a formula for guaranteed failure. Not only sick thinking, but hypocritical as well.

    In response to #2:

Steve, as a white guy whose little brother hasn’t stopped talking about Kanye’s album for the last few months, this statement confirms for me that he is most definitely an artist worth watching, listening to, and supporting.

He speaks the truth, and if you can’t help but associate yourself with George Bush and thus turn it into a simple white/black issue…well, then you don’t like black people either.

  • Jason

    Kanye West is a bigot.

  • Miguel

This is for comment 4 raised by Steve:
One of the most telling characteristics of a truly intelligent (or at least empathetic) person is the ability to recognize intelligence in others. I have to say that if you possess this at all you’d be able to recognize Kanye as an intelligent individual. Aside from the fact that his father was at one time a highly active Black Panther and his mother was head of an english department at a major university, his demeanor and the quality of his productions speak for themselves. Now I am the last person to mistake a celebrities generosity or concern as genuine, but anyone who’s ever felt for anything strong enough, as I have can, tell that looking at Kanye’s outburst while standing next to Mike Meyers was genuine and heartfelt. You can fake that tone of voice or body language or facial convulsions. Speaking outside of a phorensic stand-point; the truth just sounds like the truth and whether or not what he said had any worth (and I beleive it does) you cannot doubt his motives as being anything beyond real.

    Regarding Comment 6 by Dave.
That’s an excellent point Dave, and my personal experience during Hurricane Andrew in 1991 can attest to it. By the time I could return to what was left of my house a little more than a day after the area had been determined visitable the Army had already setup posts and relief centers where people could eat, get clothes and use free phones to call loved ones.
Not only that but patrols were setup in my neighborhood and my father had to present his driver’s license so that they could confirm he lived on the block before letting him in his house. Oh and as for blacks being natural-born looters: My grandfather shot two middle aged white men in there legs that were trying to steal from his neighbors house. Take that for what it;s worth.

  • Miguel

The heart of the matter is lost on anyone that says Kanye lost 20 million in support. If those people had true intentions of donating money for the sole purpose of helping those in need, then they wouldn’t have let their generosity hinge on one man’s oppinion.

  • Me-Me

It’s very painful to read how everything is turned into a racial issue. Kanye was not born into wealth. His mother was not a doctor…She was and still is an English teacher. He could not get his “freshman” album recorded and released. So, he went into debt to do so. Why? because he is a determined young man.
Why is it acceptable for our vice-president to use profanity in a professional situation? Yet, Kanye can’t speak his mind? Dixie Chics all over again? This is not a dictatorship. That’s what makes America great. This young man made a heartfelt plea. His stuttering was caused by a truly emotional response. By the By…How can anyone come up with a $20 million dollar approximation of loss when they were expecting around 20 mil in total? Who’s doing the addition here? To even suggest that people are more concerned with their presiden t’s feeling; than their countrymen’s welfare is an insult. 49% of Americans agree with Kanye according to the latest polls. Only 41% think Bush’s handling was appropriate. Or.. Perhaps Kanye skewed the polls too. And to the person who was using Ebonics; it’s obvious to the more intelligent among us that you are portraying yourself as something that you’re not. Now let’s live in peace and harmony..until next time.

Your boy Kayne West makes his remarks about the president, of course showing how uneducated he really is. Bush was not my choice for president, infact I don’t even feel he should have been on the ballot. That being said, Kayne West is really one ignorant individual, who shows just how much of a college dropout he really is. Typical, non-educated comments, absolutely pathetic.
Lets just start with the obvious. I want to just say that if I sound like I know it all, well, if you put me next to an invlid such as Kanye West, I will sound quite brilliant. Nevertheless, the disaster, Katrina. Hurricane warnings come, some worse than others, but people come out of it ok. There are many warnings throughout the year, every year, and people seem to make it.
Katrina was a massive disaster and I really don’t think anyone was prepared for what Katrina did to poor Louisiana and its people. The destruction was horrendous, far worse than any of the myriad of hurricane warnings we have seen anywhere! Who would have though this would have leveled an entire city?
The evacuations. Well, I will take a wild guess and assume that you (hot 97 listeners and staff) feel Bush is the one who calls for evacuation. Um, no! Evacuation decisions are made on a local level, i.e. you wonderful governor of New Orleans, that’s his job. This mayor left hundreds of city vehicles just sit and go to waste when they could have been used like they were supposed to be. You do realize he does have responsibility, correct? Where is his blame? Oh wait, he’s black, can’t blame him.
I do understand it’s hard to just pick up and leave, but the people of NO, must defend them selves and do what is best for their safety. I know there were places set up for events such as this and so they should have taken advantage of it.
The Idiot Bush is really only to blame for not being prepared for such a massive disaster that occurred. Yes he was absolutely wrong for not having supplies ready to go and should be to blame for the poor response.
What kind of idiot responses are made, “Bush doesn’t like black people!” Um, are you serious? That is an uneducated response if I ever heard it. It is typical! I mean if we still hear issues about slavery brought up 100 years later, and the ones making these comments were never even slaves!!! Nor are they making the comments to people whom never even owned slaves!!! Am I the only one? Why don’t I get it? Oh, I go to school! That must be it.
If you thought about it for a second and thought about what we stand for as a county, equal rights. You think Bush and his administration would sit and let blacks suffer as the world watches? Is that the name this administration wants for themselves, as raciest? Well, the answer is no idiot.
I do not want you to think that I feel I am above blacks. I think black people are a great part of our society and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Some of the sharpest and smartest people I know are back. Comments about the same thing just get old and tiring. These comments are without thought and directed at the wrong people. Honestly, Kanye West is dividing blacks from whites and if that’s the way he wants it, so be it. I will choose sides if I have to.
Lets not even get into Kanye’s comments about crack and the Black Panthers. HAHA, so sad, but not surprised by the comment. Geez, I wonder what Kanye would be doing if he were not behind a mic? Garbage man, if he were lucky.
Another stupid comment, another step back in bringing us together. I can’t wait to finish school, thanks Kanye.

Interesting thread. I think West is on to something but handled it and described it badly.

I just posted a few new mashups here, including one involving
remix/mashup Kayne West’s infamous remarks about George Bush.

I was never a fan of Kanye West’s until now. You all can say what you want about Kanye but the truth of it all is that your hate for Kanye was that he dared to speak up. I mean how dare he not “know his place” right? How dare he! “Who does he think he is” right? You cant stand the fact that he had the COURAGE to speak on it. And for those that dont know, remember, or have forgotten what courage means here it is again…”Courage is not the lack of fear. It is acting in spite of it.” ~ Mark Twain (though those words were spoken by yet another racist even a broken clock has the right time twice in a day)

You know the ones… the plantation owners aka slave owners who did the same and worse for HUNDREDS of years!

  • Jewels

Proud Honey,Oh, KANYE post that one more time??? Wow, calm down. someone get a Xanax NOW!!!

  • Proud Honey

steve, scoobie, and a few others (u know who u are) It is people just like you that are in the bush admin. You think we dont know who the white racists are that post here? You make yourselves obvious. You want to talk about ebonics? what about the so-called “college educated” who always ask us to spell our names (even the simplest ones) yet you can spell some of the more difficult words of the english language or even some of the jewish/foreign names that have a more complex spelling? What I Am seeing here is that you simply CHOOSE not to understand when it comes to us just as you CHOOSE to be unable to spell our simpler names. I Am aware that this is just another way of further trying and make us feel alienated in our own home (ie. america). But the bottom line here is that you understand perfectly well what is being said and want to insult and degrage on an ethnic level. I dont hear you talking about the way “rednecks” speak.

  • Proud Honey

jewel do you get paid to try to incite people posting here or do you do it with all the free time you have unemployed?

  • Proud Honey

    oh and one more thing
This is directed to POST 11 “why brother” and others with similar BS. you spoke of the depraved few slicing the throats of seven years old, raping five year olds, etc. But you made no mention of the ARMED MILITARY that were also there and stood by and did NOTHING!!! Go ahead, show your ignorance…Deny their [the military] presence!

  • Jewels

Proud Honey – Bear; dearest one, I am very employed; thank you,and thanks to my Proud Family,(Disney Channel) hope to remain that way for a while. Free time, don’t have alotta, tonite you’re just soooo lucky…XXX

    (1) In New Orleans, you are dealing with the permanently poor — people who don’t have jobs, are not used to getting up and organizing themselves and getting things done and for whom sitting and waiting is a way of life, . . .

    (1) Ni**ers are poor, unemployed and lazy. Its a way of life for them to sit on their ass all day. That is why they were caught in the flood. Don’t blame Bush — its their fault for not having the means or the will to get away in time.

Balletshooz, I don’t get the point of this bit here, are they not poor unemployed bums, what’s untrue about this statement? oh and I like the way translate it into redneck speak for us, that’s jus’ super!

    (2) This is a natural disaster that is exacerbated by the problems of the underclass. The chief cause of poverty today among blacks is no longer racism. It is the breakdown of the traditional family.

    (2) Ni**ers do not take care of their kids. That is why they remain poor. De Jure discrimination in society plays no part in their plight, so we can pretend it does not exist. We can just scapegoat black men for abandoning their families, and pretend our policies play no role in their suffering at all.

I didn’t know shitty policies were race specific, is there some fine print at the bottom of the these documents that says “this is a shitty policy, and therefore it only applies to black people” ?

Also, make up your mind who’s tryin’ to keep tha black man down, is it society or the government? Why are people not simply responsible for their own racism? It seems like people can just say “the government knows I’m racist, so it’s their fault for not trying to stop me”
I just think your philosophy is mentally crippling to anyone who buys into it, your “de jure discrimination” convinces black folks that they are sad poor fucks who’re incapable of escaping their victim mentallity.

  • Luke

to proud honey What that says about your founding fathers is ‘shit happens’ and yeah, i’m a pissed of white dude, i’m so god damn pissed off that a black man stepped out of line, not like in the old days when them nigrs knew their place. Funny thing is, I think white folks are more eager than anyone to just get over the whole thing, the thing being racial stuff, but you’s keep calling us out on it, you’re so hard up to have us all be cracker racists we almost feel obligated to satiate your desire for an oppressor that you can blame all of your problems on.

  • BLOOOP

Please…Kayne mad new orleans loses 20 million dollars? If those people were serious about helping …they would still help and not just put thier money away cause of what one person said…
unless of course…its just an excuse.. omg he said that..so umm i dun feel like helping those homeless people anymore…
    that’s just stupid!

  • right

I just admire the fact that someone finally had the nerve to say something about bush. Leave it to Kanye to burst in front of thousands of viewers on his own honest opinion.
Bush is the most dim-witted man alive. The only reason he had for sending troops over to the Middle East was to finish his daddy’s battle.
I support and agree with Kanyes little outburst, bush’s response to everything in the country was and still is, racist.
Notice that last years hurricane in Florida got a massive response to relief efforts compared to New Orleans. Wouldn’t have anything to do with Jud or Jeb or whatever the fuck his brothers name is, being the Governor would it?
Hmm, ponder on that will you please?

  • doc

kanye has a right to say what he wants whether we agree or not it is his right. white people say what they want all the time. they put blacks down all the time. lets look at white folk fact more white men kill, rape, and molest kids more than any other group of people in america. when meger evans was killed by that white guy, the man went around and told every on he did it and even gave the gun to the judge.not one white person got upset about it. when oj simpson got off they were so angery all because he got off from supposely killing a white woman.when a little boy got killed in alabama for whistling at a white girl they did not get upset.but when five white boys raped and beat a black girl not one white person said they were wrong they yelled their innocent, when in fact all five said they did it and she deserved it because she looked at them. lets get real we still have a problem with racism and the only people that can change it is white people because they started it.if those replubicans had wanted or had any intentions on giving they would have those were human beings the words of on man had nothing to do with it.i’m sure their children say things they don’t like but that does not stop them from buying them cars and giving them money to buy beer when their under age.every thing we do has nothing to do with race culture or ethnic back ground.it has to do with we are all human and there are kids and old people involved and all cultures of people were hurt by this hurrican. so lets be real and look at the whole story white people are no different they just hide their stories. they control the media so you don’t hear a lot about them. the welfare system has more whites on its roles than blacks check the records. so lets get real and stop this back and forth garbage black do what we have always done take care of our own and every body else, don’t for get white folk even during slave times ate our food and we took care of their kids. White folk stop being phoney be real stop being racist and stop planting unwanted seeds in your children about blacks and put god in your life and help people because your heart says it is the right thing to do.

To the anonymous person who posted message #25 (just learned of it today):

“let me get this straight … you must have been in the same english class as kanye west, yo … stop slinging crack, get your G.E.D”

Spoken like a corny white boy. You must be. “YO?” Nobody says that s–t anymore.

How about you grow a set of b-ls and put your name on your messages? Stop hiding behind internet anonymity. Maybe we can continue this “discussion” face to face. How about it?

  • benjamin powell

i think kanya west is brilliant i’m glad of what he said about g. bush

he could have easily helped the people that were affected by the hurricane but he didn’t he was to busy on vacation

  • Michael

Well we have to think about the facts here,

    1) WE are in debt close to almost 40 trillion dollars we cant credit that almost all to Bush.

2)If we were not in debt that much we wouldnt have to do all these hurricane and tsunami reliefs. that means kanye might have never had the chance to say that in the first place.

    3) Us whites (including me) out heritage has been hurting the african-americans rights, society, religon, freedom of speech, freedom of press and much much more. The sad thing is we still do it today. Even though the KKK is banished from know on. that doesnt mean that we dont have racists in our country. Now we are just to go around pretending like that never happened? cmon, get a grip there will always be tension between blacks and whites. I strongly beleive in wat kanye west said.

4)No one really knows if its true or not that George does or does not like blacks, except for what he thinks. He is our presisdent, he should tell us what he thinks, he should not be racist, HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO NEW ORLEANS FASTER, QUICKER, AND MROE EFFICIENTLY, AND MOST OF ALL HE SHOULD CARE ABOUT BLACKS.

by the way im only 15, and i can tell i am smarter then half the people writing on this forum.
