Stars arrived on the
red blue carpet last Sunday at 3PM, all wondering the same thing: Will I win a coveted surfboard, the award of the 2008 Teen Choice Awards?
The categories varied from TV to Movies to Music to Fashion to Comedy to Sports to Special Awards, which included the Do Something Award, Most Fanatic Fans, and Choice MySpacer. My predictions — which I made last Wednesday — weren’t that bad. The red carpet was awesome.
The show started with host Miley Cyrus performing “7 Things.” She really drew the crowd in. Miley also did a very good job as host, impressing many other celebrities. Drake Bell said Miley “is doing great.” Chad Michael Murray, who won for Choice TV Actor: Drama, told the press, “Miley’s rockin’ it. I’ve never met her. I don’t really follow her career. But she has all this spare energy. She should be proud.” Channing Tatum called her charismatic. Miley also won Choice Music: Female Artist, Choice TV Actress: Comedy (Steve Carell won male and Get Smart won Summer Movie: Comedy), and Hannah Montanawon Choice TV Show: Comedy.
Mariah Carey also did a performance of “I’ll Be Loving You A Long Time,” which also adds to the Teen Choice Award’s coolness factor. She deserved a surfboard for her performance.
M&M Dance Crew — featuring Miley Cyrus, Mandy Jiroux, and a lot of incredibly hot dancers — faced off against the dance troop ACDC in the ultimate dance contest. The battle started online and took the stage on Monday night. I personally liked ACDC better for the simple reason that M&M’s music was absolutely horrible. Both were good dancers. And I met two of the guys in M&M and they were incredibly sweet. M&M won by audience applause. It was close but Fergie called Miley’s crew the winner.
Some Jonas Brothers fans asked the Jonas Brothers questions for the segment “Ask the Jonas Brothers.” The boys did their signature dance moves. And Joe described his perfect date: “Well, I would start by riding up on a beautiful white horse. Fly to Paris and then Barcelona. Maybe we’d see a movie.” Kevin also revealed the weirdest fan gift — their first hippo. The Jonas Brothers also swept the competition. Brittany Snow presented them with SIX awards: Choice Single/Love Song: “When You Look Me in The Eyes,” Choice Breakout Group, Choice Male Hottie (Vanessa Hudgens won Female), Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon Male (Carrie Underwood won Female), and Choice Summer Song “Burnin’ Up.” They thanked their mom and dad first (aww…), then their manager, after that their fans, and then their band.
For the Do Something award — where teens have different causes and one teen gets 100,000 dollars for his or her cause — Chad Bullock won. He was the Anti-Tobacco Activist who got smoking banned in one stadium. He said, “Youth can make a change. Positive work really pays off. 100,000 helps a lot.”
James Marsden’s movie, 27 Dresses won for Choice Movie: Chick Flick. He said on the red carpet, “Who inspires me? Zac Efron inspires me. The Jonas Brothers inspire me … no I got kids.”
Will Smith’s movies also did very well. Hancock won Choice Summer Movie: Action/Adventure. I Am Legend won Choice Movie: Horror/Thriller. And Will Smith won for Choice Movie Actor in a Horror/Thriller. James Marsden and Danica Patrick gave Will his surfboard. Will gave a great acceptance speech.
Ellen Page won for Choice Movie: Breakout Female and Juno won for Choice Movie: Comedy. Michael Cera — who was in Juno — was up for Choice Movie Actor: Comedy, but lost to Aston Kutcher. Kutcher’s What Happens in Vegas won for Bromantic Comedy. Narnia won Choice Movie: Action Adventure. Step-Up 2 won Choice Movie: Drama. Channing Tatum won for Choice Movie Actor: Drama. Channing doesn’t know what to do with the board, which he called beautiful and said maybe he’ll use it. Keira Knightley won Choice Movie Actress: Drama. Rachel Bilson took a board home for Choice Movie Actress: Action/Adventure. Ms. Alba won Choice Movie Actress: Horror/Thriller. And Choice Movie: Villain goes to Johnny Depp.
Gossip Girl was recognized. It won Choice TV Show: Drama and Breakout Show. Blake Lively won for Choice TV Actress: Drama and Breakout Star: Female. Ed Westwick won for TV villain. Chace Crawford won for Breakout Star: Male. When asked what he was going to do with the award, he said, “Surf on it.” He, then asked the press to teach him. Then, he said, “I’ll put it on my ceiling.”
Heroes won Choice TV Show: Action Adventure with Hayden Panettiere winning Choice TV Actress: Action Adventure. The Secret Life of the American Teenager won Choice Summer TV Show. Francia Raisa (pictured) said, “I’m very excited to get nominated. It’s been shown only five times. It’s ridiculous.”
Chris Brown did very well. He (with Jordin Sparks) won Choice Hook-up for “No-Air.” He also won Choice Music: Male Artist, R & B artist, R & B track (Forever) and Rap/Hip Hop Track, “Shawty Get Loose” Lil Mama featuring Chris Brown and T-Pain.
Onto the reality shows. The Davids from American Idol not only presented an award, but the show won Choice TV: Reality Music Competition. David Archuleta won Most Fanatic Fans. David Cook — who also won Male Reality star — is pictured below. LC won Female Reality Star. LC said, “The award is cool because it’s from kids.” For Reality Dance, American’s Best Dance Crew won. For Celebrity Reality show, The Hills won.
David Beckham left the Teen Choice Awards with a souvenir — a surfboard, the trophy he won for Choice Male Athlete. The British soccer star lit up the room when he brought his three young boys with him to the stage. Although he added later in the press room, “Yeah, I would like a little girl. Victoria’s always wanted a big family. Why not?” The littlest one clung to his leg, as he accepted the award from Josh Halloway and Kristen Bell. One of his adorable boys ended up break dancing on the stage. He smiled, “I didn’t teach him how to dance.” He later added that the boy went on tour with the Spice Girls, which his wife belongs to.
“I hope soccer makes an impression [on L.A. and the United States],” he said in his British accent. “The most L.A. thing I do is … well, the boys like surfing.” Maybe the surfboard award will be of use then. David did not reveal his plans for the board, some celebrities have decided to use it as a surfboard, except LC who thought, “I don’t know, I guess I think it’s rude to surf with awards.”
Everything goes back to family with this man. When asked what inspires him, he answered, “My parents, my children, my family. You know, I look up to them.” The British superstar is “hoping to play in the 2010 World Cup.” Shawn Johnson won Female Athlete for Gymnastics. She was in China, so she could not accept the award. Ryan Sheckler won for Choice Action Sports Male and for Choice MySpacer.
Drake Bell and Sophia Bush (who wins for Best Dress — it was beautiful) gave the award for choice comedian to Adam Sandler. Adam did a great speech and recognized the troops overseas. Drake Bell won for Breakout Male in the Movie category. Drake has a new Drake and Josh Christmas movie coming out, “ We started it last week. We were done for 2 1/2 years so it’s like a high school reunion.”
The Teen Choice Awards 2008 are done and over. Congratulations to all of the winners. Maybe there’ll be a surf party later.Powered by Sidelines
