UPDATE – Those tricky Jacksons fooled everyone and had the party last night, Friday, instead of Saturday as initially announced. Michael didn’t show up.
The Jackson family plan an invitation-only bash as a thank you for loyal supporters, fans and friends of Michael Saturday night at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, near Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.
The chosen will receive word of their invitations today. Will B.J. Hickman get an invite, or was he a little too supportive?
“We don’t know who will perform; we’re just told the Jackson family is putting together an event for fans they have selected,” Frances Snyder, a spokeswoman for the casino, told the Los Angeles Times.
Unless he has staged a miraculous recovery since Monday’s verdict of “not guilty” on all charges against him, it would seem unlikely the frail and emaciated-appearing King of Pop would be in any condition to put on a celebratory performance anywhere but his mind as soon as tomorrow.
The Times reports the casino’s usual crew of sound and lighting workers have been scheduled to work Saturday, and the seating will be in standard concert format, indicating more of a performance than an interactive party setting.
Jackson staged a 45th birthday celebration for himself at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles in 2003, but he entertainer merely waved from an opera box as dancers, singers and Jackson impersonators did their funky things onstage.
If I am invited I will have to regretfully decline because my daughter has a tee-ball game tomorrow.
