The Cup (Hartswood Films) is a documentary style comedy series written around the lives, events and the pushy parents of a kid’s football team. The series, directed by BAFTA award winning Matt Lipsey (Little Britain), which follows the teams quest to win a cup for under eleven’s is shown on the UK’s BBC2 channel every Thursday at 2130.

The theme song “Beautiful Game” was written by Jackdaw4’s founder and chief songwriter Willie Dowling. It is available as a free high quality MP3 download by visiting the band’s official website. This is Jackdaw4’s first release following Bipolar Diversions which was reviewed on Blogcritics at the end of August 2008.

Willie Dowling has a history of writing music for film and television and counts Armstrong & Miller, Human Remains, and 2DTV among his many credits. Meanwhile Jackdaw4 have been busy following up the rave reviews for Bipolar Diversions, the band’s second album. In 2004 they released Gramophone Logic. Two tracks from each album are also available on the Jackdaw4 website for free download. No Email address etc etc – just free to enjoy.

Hey! Just watched the last episode of The Cup. Love the soundtrack and did some googling to find out if I can buy it anywhere. Just came across this site and the answer to my question. Pleasently surprised to find out it’s a Jackdaw4 song, Willy, ex. Honeycrack and WIldhearts has always written good songs. This one is no disappointment either – truly excellent!
