For the first time ever, Emmy-Award winning television personality, Nancy O’Dell, will be helping the country ring in the new year on New Year’s Eve Live. The Fox New Year’s Eve special will air Friday, December 31 from 11pm to 12:30 a.m. ET live (tape delayed in other U.S. time zones).

In a telephone interview, O’Dell spoke about hosting New Year’s Eve Live and the changes coming up for her in 2011. She is extremely excited about the hosting New Year’s Eve; this is the first time in ten years she is even staying up to watch the ball drop. She has been part of the New Year’s Day parade and has had to wake up early every year. She described her feelings as “uber-excitement.”

When asked how she will balance hosting with having fun and enjoying New Year’s Eve, O’Dell replied that she doesn’t think she will have any problem. With the special airing live (from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas), she will just go with the flow and enjoy it. She loves working live and the excitement of Las Vegas will add much to the fun.

Nancy O’Dell has a three and a half year old daughter and they’ve been practicing counting down backwards together. Her New Year’s resolution is to look at the glass as half full and to always be positive.

O’Dell has a great deal to be excited about in 2011. She was tapped by Oprah Winfrey and Mark Burnett Productions to co-host one of the Oprah Winfrey Network’s premiere primetime shows entitled Your Own Show, set to debut in January 2011. She is thrilled to be working with Oprah. Tens of thousands of people have entered to compete for their own show on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

She is also taking over as co-anchor of Entertainment Tonight from the departing Mary Hart. O’Dell had co-hosted Access Hollywood until leaving in 2009 because she felt it was no longer the right fit. She was scared, but felt that “if you try your best to lead your life the right way, things will come back around.”

Choosing to host a New Year’s Eve special felt right because there is something so magical about New Year’s Eve and something so appropriate for her to be doing it this year on the cusp of her exciting 2011 plans.

O’Dell will help count down to 2011 during the ultimate year-end bash featuring the year’s most popular musical guests, including recording artist Travie McCoy and American Idol finalist David Archuleta. FOX will have cameras in Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, and in New York City, where the world-famous New Year’s Eve Ball makes its annual descent in Times Square.

The special is formatted so that you can drop in anytime, says O’Dell. Our goal, is to make sure that everyone tuning into Fox New Year’s Live is entertained.
