Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a mother of three daughters ages 9, 11 and 21. I have been married to my husband Bob for 13 years. I have a dog, a cat and a love bird. My oldest daughter is in college; she and her dog live with us and my two youngest daughters have a rabbit. Needless to say we love animals. My mother who has been widowed since 1993 now lives with us also. We love the outdoors, camping, boating, hiking and exploring. We are a close family.

What made you first decide to become a writer?

I have always loved to write but I don’t think I ever really set out to become a published writer. The inspiration and opportunity presented itself and as these kinds of things happen I stepped up to the challenge and the rest is history or at least my history.

Can you tell us about your latest book?

Traegonia the Ember Rune is the second book in the Traegonia series and was released August 2011. The Ember Rune continues the adventures of a young boy and a community of, mystical creatures of the forest known as, Traegons. These 16-inch tall forest dwelling creatures, that resemble a cross between a troll and a wingless dragon, are wise and inquisitive. Although they may appear scary at first they are actually quite kind and civilized. When Dino is faced with leaving, Karia and Juna, his two young Traegon friends behind when his parents decide to go on vacation, he decides to smuggle them on board a plane to California. His family vacation turns into an adventure of a lifetime when they meet two young girls and a bold and a bit wild young Traegon named Fletch. This Northern California Mountain holds danger, mystery and a path of learning for each of these new friends. Faced with forces of nature, a rogue cougar and the evolution of their own journeys, the group of unlikely friends must believe in themselves and each other to uncover the meaning of the Ember Rune and get off the mountain safely. New friendships are made, old ones revealed and a new community of Traegons is introduced.

What inspired you to write it?

I guess writing this book was just a natural progression, but the inspiration really came with the first book Traegonia the Sunbow Prophecy. I was inspired by the sculptures created by a friend and former neighbor Dino C. Crisanti. He had made a couple of these sculptures, just for the art of it, and when my husband saw them he thought they were so incredible that he just had to show me. He suggested that I write a book about them, giving them a world, a life and a name. And as my husband, Dino and I stood in the backyard kicking around the idea, The World of Traegonia was born.

What is one thing you hope readers will take away from this book?

I hope that readers will take with them the simple yet important messages that are as much a part of the book as the creatures. The messages are; friendship and how our friendships and the way we treat others can shape who we are to become, diversity, and looking beyond outward appearances, getting to know someone before passing judgment and how even though we are different we just may have things in common. There is also of course the message of conservation and why we need to save parts of the land for those creatures known and those unknown. Finally, we hope that it inspires all readers to imagine and be inspired to create and believe in who you are and what you can accomplish.

Where can readers purchase a copy of your book?

Our books are available through Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, our website at www.worldoftraegonia.com and through most book sellers. Just ask for it by name and they can easily order it if they don’t have it in stock. We also ask our readers to request it at your local library, so that those who cannot afford it can get it there. Both books are also available on the Kindle through Amazon and e-book through our publisher’s website at www.Outskirtspress.com.

If you could meet any writer (living or dead) who would it be?

I think I would like to meet J.K. Rowling. She is a very private person and I would love to hear, straight from her, the struggles she went through as an unknown author and how amazing it must have been to have her books finally discovered.

What is one fact about yourself you wish to share with our readers?

I was, as a child, a struggling reader. It was difficult for me to find something that would hold my interest. Just remember, don’t give up, there are so many books out there; you will find the one that you will later say pulled you into the world of reading. Just believe that you can and you will.

What is up next for you?

I am currently promoting this book and working on the third book in our series. Our ultimate goal is to see Traegons come to life on the big screen. So for now we will keep plugging away and moving forward, seeking out the opportunities and pushing through the challenges.

Is there anything you would like to add?

I just want to let teachers and parents of homeschoolers know that there is a curriculum on line for both books that can be used in a classroom setting. We also love to come to schools and libraries and bring the Traegons for all to see. I can be contacted through our website at www.WorldofTraegonia.com or you can reach me by email at traegonia@yahoo.com. Visit us on Facebook and “like” us for updates on future events, new sculptures, contests and lots more. Hope to see you there.
