Ask any three people what internet marketing is and you're likely to get up to six different answers.

The simplest answer works the best here: the term internet marketing refers to how web content is promoted to get attention, usually, but not always, with the end intention of getting a customer to buy a product.

Whether that means advertising a website, sending an email about a video, or linking to a podcast, all of these things are marketing.

Online, internet marketing is also a group unto itself: that is, there's an entire community of people online who market products and services about marketing products and services on the internet.

Some of these sites, like John Jantsch's Duct Tape Marketing, reach out specifically to various small business owners of all different industries online. Others provide marketing tips or marketing resources to either existing business owners or marketing professionals.

Looking to generate web traffic to sell your products or services? Internet marketing is one of the best mediums to accomplish this task. With hundreds of millions of people at your fingertips the internet cannot be ignored!

The key to internet marketing is to drive targeted traffic.  It's easy send people to your web site; go to ebay and type in "web site traffic" and you'll find offers for $20, but that traffic is not targeted traffic and will most likely not result in a single sale.

Search engine optimization, web 2.0 marketing, leveraging videos, social tagging, and content marketing are just a few of the most popular methods of internet marketing.

At the end of the day, you need to track your marketing to see which methods are producing the best traffic.  Then, simply tweak and continue optimizing for the best results!
