Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) has been a roller-coaster of flirting celebrities, weight loss stories, and most of all injuries. The show, which airs on ABC, has always been plagued by drama and scandal as it mixes celebrities and sports stars with trained dancing professionals. This season the biggest hit, no pun intended, is Kirstie Alley. Alley, best known for her work on the television show Cheers, has been paired with professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The audience has watched Alley drool over Chmerkovskiy not just on the show also via her Twitter account. As Alley’s affection for Maksim hasn’t diminished in the last six weeks, her waist line has!

Alley, now 60 years old, started off the dancing season wearing a size twelve. The grueling DWTS regimen has Alley in a quoted “size 10” dress. Alley has told the media she is refusing to weigh herself until the end of the season. Speculation surrounded Alley’s weight was recently forced into the media spotlight when her dancing partner claimed to have pulled a thigh muscle. The incident occurred when Chmerkovskiy’s leg gave out while carrying Alley across the dance floor on live television. The injuries, weight induced or not, don’t just surround Alley. Injuries have been a part of DWTS as much as forced celebrities romances have been.

Ralph Macchio, who was recently voted off of the show, suffered a knee injury two weeks ago and NFL player Heinz Ward (Pittsburgh Steelers) was involved in an injury that left his partner, professional dancer Kym Johnson, with a brief neck injury. The show has a team of medical professionals on set. However, some of the stars are rumored to be using natural muscle products, such as Greek Island Labs’ Joint Mud, to help them get through the grueling physical requirements that accompany being on the show.

Alley, Ward and Disney star Chelsea Kane are the final three contestants bidding for this season’s famed Mirror Ball Trophy. Last season, the drama surrounding the final three contestants included Bristol Palin’s click farming complaints. Last season’s final three contestants also faced end-of-season injuries. All of the elements which once made DWTS an interesting show now lead up to one very predicable season finale. Next Monday, May 23rd, ABC’s viewing audience will get to watch a squeaky clean Disney star dance it out with an oversexed 60-year old and an NFL athlete. All three contestants are rumored to all ready be facing new sets of injuries.

The would be May-December romance between Alley and Chmerkovskiy may just be conjured up for the benefit of good television, but it is the potential for injury that seems to be carrying the show. My prediction for a winner? Chelsea Kane.
