As Sting's musical 'The Last Ship' nears its Broadway premiere, the perennial pop star releases a live DVD of his own performances of the music.

GEORGE HARRISON: THE APPLE YEARS 1968-75 comes out Sept. 23 from Universal. The ex-Beatle’s first six solo albums remastered from the original analog masters will be available as a box set and individually.

Speaking of The Beatles, the new studio album from the ’90s hitmakers from New Orleans BETTER THAN EZRA comes out Sept. 9. The title? All Together Now. Pre-order on iTunes here.

chick corea trilogyThe CHICK COREA TRIO featuring bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade have a brand new three-disc live album called Trio out this week. It includes previously unrecorded originals, standards by the likes of Monk, Gershwin and Irving Berlin, and even a re-imagined piece by Scriabin.

MINUS THE BEAR‘s new album Lost Loves comes out Oct. 7. Their tour this fall will also be in support of the 10th anniversary re-release of the fan-favorite EP, They Make Beer Commercials Like This.

CHRISSIE HYNDE has confirmed her North American tour dates supporting her solo album Stockholm, which came out in June. The Wall Street Journal called the album “a worthy addition to a catalog of extraordinary work.”

Three-time Grammy Award winner SERGIO MENDES, the most successful Brazilian musician of his time, releases his OKeh Records debut Magic Sept. 9.

STING‘s new musical The Last Ship is Broadway-bound. On Sept. 23, six days before Broadway previews begin, the former Police frontman will release the DVD The Last Ship — Live At The Public Theater featuring songs from his latest album and the show. The DVD captures Sting and a 14-piece band “in an intimate evening of music and storytelling filmed on his birthday, during a run of 10 benefit concerts performed at The Public Theater in New York City.” Pre-order at Amazon.

pip proudA pair of 1960s records from Australian cult figure PIP PROUD, the “Australian Syd Barrett,” will be reissued on vinyl Oct. 28. Copies of the original release of the second of these “indigenous psychedelia” records, the rare A Bird In The Engine, go for $1,000 or more.

Last but not last, a superb new Early Music releases is out this month from Harmonia Mundi. Ensemble GLI INCOGNITI led by Amandine Beyer makes its debut on the label with Couperin’s Apothéoses, chamber music written to honor honor Lully and Corelli and assert the early 18th century French composer’s “desire to promote a meeting of the French and Italian styles.”
