When seniors were younger and imagined their retirement years, many probably pictured themselves financially secure. When they were putting away money and investing, they likely assumed that those years of hard work would set them up for the “good life” later.

In fact, they likely imagined themselves taking time to travel, relax or work on their golf game. There are some seniors who are fortunate enough to reach this goal. But, there are many who need a little extra boost in their income.

One way for seniors to make money is through Internet marketing, which offers the opportunity to boost their retirement income and allow them to work from home, on their own schedule.

Let’s face it, if you’re a senior, you may have been able to make enough money to remain comfortable and out of money worries during your retirement years. However, even after a few years of leisurely living, you might be looking for some new challenges, something to keep you stimulated and active.

Today, seniors are enjoying more vibrant, active lives. They may not want to go out and work a 40 hour/week job, but they would like to get involved in something that can earn them a little extra money and still allow them free time to pursue their interests.

Understandably, trying to learn how to run an at-home computer business can seem overwhelming for most seniors. After all, learning the ins and outs of a computer is new for many seniors, since they did not grow up with it. Computers are relatively new inventions, and computer technology and the Internet are consistently growing and changing. Obviously, there are challenges to learning Internet marketing. However, they can be overcome, and the effort is well worth it.

Challenges Seniors Face When Tackling Internet Marketing

Of course, learning something new can be challenging. Seniors face many of the same problems as younger people when trying to break into Internet Marketing. There are problems that many seniors will feel are unique to them. Here are three of the most common ones:

1. Computers can seem complicated and intimidating, and many seniors are hesitant to try new things.

2. Seniors did not grow up with computers, and most didn’t learn how to use them when they were younger. So, learning to use a computer in new territory.

3. Many seniors may have a slower mental capacity (or are afraid that they might). Seniors may doubt their capability, and it could take longer to get the hang of new terms and technical features related to computers and Internet marketing.

If you happen to be a senior, you probably remember learning to hit your new golf driver. At first, those things probably seemed daunting too. Of course, when you were younger, you were probably more excited to learn something new and grasping new ideas was easier and more interesting.

You must have enthusiasm to learn new things, especially when it comes to computers and Internet marketing. The great thing to understand is that there is so much help available. If you can do a simple Google or Yahoo “search” (or another search engine), tons of sites will be right there at your fingertips.

If you can already perform basic searches, use email, create documents and conduct other simple tasks, then you’re ready to master effective Internet marketing strategies. If you don’t know anything about computers, there are classes available at local colleges, senior centers and other places in your area. Help is available if you’re ready and up for the challenge.

Getting the Right Information on the Internet

Of course, there are scams to avoid any time there’s money to be made from selling or promoting products and services on the Internet. Fortunately, there are easy ways to discern the scammers that are out there hoping the take advantage of you.

So, don’t let the threat of scammers scare you away. There are tons of doors that Internet Marketing and mastering computers skills can open for seniors: financially, mentally and socially.

One of the best places to start is to browse blogs and forums. You’ll encounter all ages and levels of experience when you’re browsing forums on Internet Marketing. There will be others out there to connect with that are new to Internet Marketing, but you’ll also find some seasoned experts willing to share their experiences and offer advice. They may even be able to suggest reliable sites they’ve used in the past.

The Warrior Forum is one of Internet Marketing’s most respected and widely used forums. Frequent users are those who are new to Internet Marketing, as well as those who are thriving in their business.

In the forum, you’ll be able to interact with others looking to break into a new, profitable business venture. You’ll also have the opportunity to interact with those who are experienced with computers and with Internet Marketing. They will be able to offer advice and point you toward sites, blogs and forums they’ve had previous success with.

When you search the Warrior Forum, you’ll run across “Success, Power and Self-Improvement,” which features discussion threads, special offers and information on products and services.

Of course, there are many other blogs and forums out there to help seniors and others looking to break into Internet Marketing. It’s important to research opportunities and make well-informed decisions, especially when faced with those “fast and easy” promises of making money or learning to use the Internet.

Even when you are learning to play golf, a lot of practice goes into perfecting that swing before you hit the course for a real game. Well, learning a new skill like mastering a computer or prospering in the world of Internet Marketing is, actually, a similar idea.

It may take a few practice swings to get it right. It’s important to take your time and research your strategies. But, in the end, the advantages of Internet Marketing for seniors can be life changing.

I love this angle! My mom just turned 74 this month and bought herself an iPad. She’s totally connected and completely capable. Though I don’t think she’s interested in Internet marketing per se, she’s a great example of a senior who defintely could acquire the skills if so inclined. I have no doubt that seniors could find their niche in the online marketing world. Thanks for a fresh perspective.

    Stacy;
Thank you for weighing in on this. Although I have found learning about Internet marketing a bit of an uphill challenge I am sure it helps my grey matter firing.
If I had a wish it would be for a trustworthy source that would teach the process in detail for those of us who are new. It appears to many people that purport themselves to help really only want to exploit.
