CBGB's Hilly Kristal has died at the age of 75. Kristal founded the influential club in 1973 and the club played host to such rock bands as Blondie and The Ramones prior to the band's making it big. Kristal died of lung cancer. CBGB's was forced to close last year after a drawn out dispute over rising rent and unpaid back rent. Kristal had said that he planned to reopen the club in Las Vegas and it is unclear if this will now take place.
Nokia has launched new web services that will allow its users to download maps, music and games directly to their mobile phones. The service is called Ovi and is meant as competition for iTunes. Its a step forward in web services for phones because other services, like iTunes, require users to download content to their computers first instead of downloading directly to their phones. The service will be available in Europe later this year. There is currently no word for when the service will be available in the US.
The former guitarist from Jane's Addiction Dave Navarro has made a move into the world of "adult entertainment" and has directed his first "adult film". The film is entitled Broken and is due to be released in September. The film stars actress Sasha Grey and is a first in a series of celebrity-directed adult films by the company Teravision.
