Hey folks, it's the first ever Dose of Awesome and I think it's fitting that we start off the Dose with something from one of the most awesome games ever, Halo.
In anticipation of Halo: Reach, Bungie has commissioned a live action short that introduces you to one of Noble Team's members, Carter 259. The 60-second short shows the last stage of Carter's transformation from man to Spartan, the bio-augmentation procedure. Bungie posted this to go with the short:
"The highly classified bio-augmentation procedure is a Spartan candidate’s final and most difficult ordeal before joining the ranks of the legendary soldiers. The dramatic interpretation of Carter’s rebirth as a Spartan embodies the themes of courage, sacrifice and honor in Halo: Reach and gives viewers a unique look into the origins of a central character in the upcoming blockbuster game."
Bungie are no strangers to live action advertising with Neill Blomkamp famously creating a series of Halo 3 live action shorts, dubbed Landfall, while Bungie also went the live action route with ODST, commissioning production company MJZ to create the short "The Life."
The current "Birth of a Spartan" short trailer is part of a longer two minute 30-second trailer that has been directed by Noam Murro. There's currently a site that states "Augmentation Begins April 28, 2010," which looks like it will host the full video when it hits the web. Bungie's live action shorts, especially their handling of action in the Halo universe, have been remarkable and hopefully we'll get to see some more of that in the full short. So far, this short has continued to develop the established tone and feel of the previous shorts while giving us our closest look at a live action Spartan.
Anyway, what did you think of the short? Did it get you interested? Did you like the Spartan armor (personally I did)? How about those needles? Powered by Sidelines
