In 2011, the release of a new Google product, Google+, hit the online community with a splash. Google+ or G+ is a strong rival to websites such as Twitter and Facebook. In late June, the invitations to the Beta version were release and many were able to join. By July 1, the invitation process was shut-down due to the overwhelming response to the BETA invitation.

Below are key areas that will help you learn more about the functionality of the website.

Top menu:

  • Home (message stream from all the people you are connected to)
  • Photos (list of photos that you share)
  • Profile (your personal information)
  • Circles (groups that you create for all the people you follow)

Left Sidebar menu:

  • Stream (links to each circle so you can view the message for an individual circle)
  • Sparks (news stories that you might find interesting; search or use a category that is provided)
  • Chat (access to your Google Talk buddies

Right Sidebar menu:

  • Quick access to your circles
  • Suggestions for people you can add to your circles
  • Hangouts (create live video/audio chats with people from your circles)
