With the Golden Globes this weekend, I decided to size up some of my favorites in each of the Television categories against who I believe are the clear front-runners.

Best Television Series, Drama
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
The Good Wife
Mad Men
The Walking Dead

My Choice: The Walking Dead
Who Will Probably Win: Boardwalk Empire

The Walking Dead proved that you can include horror elements without resorting to camp, and focused on the drama of survival as much as the zombies that roamed the earth. The show has a chance, especially since the Globes always tend to be full of surprises. That is what adds to the ceremony’s appeal. However, given the heavy critical acclaim of Boardwalk Empire, the HBO drama probably has a slight edge even in this murderer’s row of quality programs.

Best Televison Series, Comedy or Musical
30 Rock
The Big Bang Theory
The Big C
Glee
Modern Family
Nurse Jackie

My Choice: The Big Bang Theory
Who Will Probably Win: Modern Family

Don’t get me wrong, I love Glee and Modern Family, but if I were to choose a show that made me laugh the hardest, I would have to side with the gang over at The Big Bang Theory (though Family is a very, very close second.) Plus, being a geek at heart, I guess I might be a little biased. That being said, Modern Family is a critical darling that is deserving of all the praise and awards it receives.

Best Actor in a Television Series, Drama
Steve Buscemi
Boardwalk Empire
Bryan Cranston
Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall
Dexter
Jon Hamm
Mad Men
Hugh Laurie
House

My Choice: Bryan Cranston
Who Will Probably Win: Steve Buscemi

Cranston is a multiple winner for the Emmy’s, which gives him a strong edge. However, as I mentioned before, Empire has the buzz, so Buscemi will probably be a lock.

Best Actress in a Television Series, Drama
Julianna Margulies
The Good Wife
Elisabeth Moss
Mad Men
Piper Perabo
Covert Affairs
Katey Sagal
Sons of Anarchy
Kyra Sedgwick
The Closer

My Choice: Katey Sagal
Who Will Probably Win: Piper Perabo

Just hear me out on this one. Anyone remember when Ana Paquin was nominated, as well as America Ferrara (in the comedy category)? The Globes have a history of giving the award to someone in a new, quirky role, especially among actresses. So if I have to pick the surprise of the night, the best bet would be for this category, even though I am a huge Katey Sagal fan and would love to see her take it.

Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical
Alec Baldwin
30 Rock
Steve Carell
The Office

Thomas Jane
Hung
Matthew Morrison
Glee
Jim Parsons

Big Bang Theory

My Choice: Jim Parsons
Who Will Probably Win: Jim Parsons

Parsons is an unstoppable talent as Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, and hardly ever misses a beat. Plus, a fresh Emmy win has him in the public eye, making his chances even bigger.

Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical
Toni Collette
United States of Tara
Edie Falco
Nurse Jackie
Tina Fey
30 Rock
Laura Linney
The Big C
Lea Michelle
Glee

My Choice: Lea Michelle
Who Will Probably Win: Laura Linney

Michelle is fantastic, and even though she plays a character people have trouble liking, somehow she has found a way to make her loveable. That being said, Linney, a fierce talent as well, took on a tough subject for a comedy, and will probably be rewarded.

Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Hope Davis
Special Relationship
Jane Lynch
Glee
Kelly McDonald
Boardwalk Empire
Julia Stiles
Dexter
Sofia Vergara
Modern Family

My Choice: Jane Lynch
Who Will Probably Win: Jane Lynch

Sofia Vergara is a force to be reckoned with; however my money is on Lynch, who has the impossible task of making an unlikeable character funny and human, which she succeeds at brilliantly. Plus, given the momentum of Glee, this will probably be the Hollywood Foreign Press’s way of recognizing the show (if it is shut out in its other categories.)

Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Scott Caan
Hawaii Five-0
Chris Noth
The Good Wife
David Straithairn
Temple Grandin
Eric Stonestreet
Modern Family
Chris Colfer
Glee

My Choice: Chris Colfer
Who Will Probably Win: Scott Caan, Chris Colfer, or Eric Stonestreet

Okay, so it might seem like I am cheating a bit on this one. But can you blame me? Again, this is a tough category, but Stonestreet has a recent Emmy win, and Caan has the buzz, which makes their chances of taking home an award huge. Colfer, on the other hand, is a triple threat with an Emmy nomination, plus a high profile storyline, which might give him a terrific advantage. I would be happy to see any of them take it, yet I think might smile might be brighter if Colfer won.

There you have it. See you Sunday to find out just how many I got right. What do I get if I am right? Well, nothing, except deep satisfaction. I think.

Who do you think will win?
