Xbox 360 Rip-offs on eBay

Exactly how much would you pay for an Xbox 360?

Still In Box!

As you can see from the above image, this is an Xbox 360. Brand new. How much do you think this is selling on ebay? $300? $400? No...that's way too low. Let's try $2,199.00.

Now as if the previous offer was too good to be true, let's see another one.

GREAT SSCCCCOT!

Wow! 11 games! A brand new 360! 4 controllers too!? Man, I'd kill for that! Well Instead of killing, there were five bids for this pack. Really high bids. Let's say... $10,100.00.

Here's a story about another mistake someone made. An Xbox 360 was bought for £470. It was just a photo of an Xbox 360.

Here's another case I found on ebay. Someone is selling an Xbox 360 box.

This is a straight Q&A from that ebay page:

Q: does the actual premium xbox 360 console come in this box?
A: No it is a display box, nothing came in it so nothing will be shipped with it.

Yet people are still bidding on it.

You know what the problem is? Ebay.com doing nothing about these. People are getting scammed and what is Ebay doing? Absolutely nothing. Don't get me wrong though, people who bid on these things with only looking at the picture are complete idiots.

If people are dumb enough to bid on the auction without reading it, that's no ones fault but their own.

I'm not saying the people who pull this crap aren't the scum of the Earth, but if someone out there is dumb enough to drop $10 grand on a 360, then surely someone is dumb enough to drop that much on an empty box.

This has happened with the last few console launches. A lot of these people who sell pictures or boxes are doing nothing against eBay policy. It just depends on how deceptive they are about it. There's nothing on eBay's end for them to do if the seller isn't violating policy, and I'm sure the site has far more pressing issues to deal with than stupid people buying pictures.

I thought about selling my Xbox 360 on eBay, but that thought quickly vanished when I booted up Kameo. Sure I could have made some quick money, but it just didn't seem right.

This is why my father is afraid of using ebay. He hates giving his credit card number out and gets all paranoid...

And Ken, I think you should just sell your box :P.

I'm leaning toward some of these being pranks. Friend #1 puts a display box up for bid on ebay. Friends #2 #3 #4 and so on all bid on said box until the price reaches some rediculous amount so that they can obtain some sort of short lived internet fame. This kind of thing shows up on CNN all the time.
