Gone, thankfully, are Gamebrakers. These should have stayed in NBA Street, where they belong.
Finally, turning on Tour difficulty will really test your mettle, especially with True Aiming. For fans who play this game every year, Tiger is no longer the easy game it once was.
When you start Tiger 07, you are presented with a training facility. Here, you can start tinkering with the always-evolving Gameface, or even start as a rookie Tiger Woods, if you like.
The amount of tweaking you can do in Gameface is mind-boggling. You can sit there for hours, crafting your virtual avatar in your likeness. It does call for Vision Camera support, though, since that is an option.
The training facility is actually a central hub for your created golfer, allowing you to partake in many minigames, allowing you to boost your stats. Stat grinding, an issue in Tiger 06, has been curbed this year.
You can train all you want, but once you hit a threshold, you only gain potential statistics. You have to play the game and advance in rank to realize this potential. This system works well.
Team Tour, from the current gen Tiger 07, is replaced by Tiger Challenge. This is a set of match play events where you face off against real PGA pros (including Annika Sorenstam) and fictitious players — eventually going up against Tiger himself.
The Tiger Challenge is a good single player mode that augments the PGA Tour mode well. The PGA Tour season uses the new FedEx Cup points system, and has some nice features such as the ability to simulate a round.
Multiplayer is where Tiger 07 really gets a boost. In stark contrast to 06, there are 21 modes you can play with or against others.
One-Ball is the real highlight this year. It has a great deal of strategy, and is a blast. Using one ball, your goal is to be the one to sink the ball. Easy enough idea, right? This becomes a game of who can screw over the other player the best, as you alternate shots with the one ball.
There is one main rule: every shot must be at least half the distance to the pin. If you do not hit the ball in that zone (marked on the course) you get a one-stroke penalty.
Battle Golf is another personal favorite. This is just like standard Match Play, but every time you win a hole, you can take a club from your opponent's bag (or replace a club in your own bag). Things can get tricky without a 10" driver, or even a 3 wood.
