The next generation war has begun, at least with pricing. Microsoft confirmed the Xbox 360 would be released in two different forms, one running $299, and the other $399. The console will be released in three markets simultaneously: Japan, US, and Europe, all before Christmas.
The extras in these two bundles are what is causing the price difference. The standard, $299 pack will not include a hard drive, include a wireless controller, and faceplate. The $399 package includes a 20GB hard drive, HD video cables, media controller, wireless controller (and headset), and Ethernet cable. The faceplate, along with an Xbox Live Silver subscription card, will be included in both sets.
There's little reason to buy the $299 bundle in this case, since the hard drive alone will retail for $99 separately. Memory units will be $39.99. With all the features Microsoft is touting, the hard drive almost seems like a necessity.
Nintendo also provided the first details on the Game Boy Micro, their latest Game Boy Advance console. This mini version of the popular system will retail for $99 when it is released on September 19th. It has been said to have the cleanest, brightest screen of any of their handhelds. Whether or not this mini console will support features like the E-reader is unknown. The hardware itself is unchanged, though it will NOT play Game Boy and Game Boy Color games like previous hadware.
Logic here would say just pay the extra $30 and buy a DS, which also plays GBA titles, unless you want to play mutli-player games. Nonetheless, the system will sell like crazy. They always do as long as the Game Boy name is attached.
