Will The Sims 2 be a huge social game on Facebook?

The Sims 2 was a huge game on the PC. The expansion packs made it even better and millions of people created a virtual version of themselves which lived in rich and vibrant worlds. The Sims 3 then came along and was even more popular due to the realism and the huge amount of features available within the game such as being able to access an entire town with your created Sims and literally create an entire population of families. Now, Facebook, the huge social networking website, announced at E3 that The Sims 2 will be hitting Facebook as an extensive app.

This title will be in the same league as games by Zynga including the popular Farmville and Cafe World.  Zynga has reported 100 million users a month. This means there is going to be a lot of competition, but The Sims is a popular game worldwide and the name is very well known.

So, let's look into this and see if The Sims 2 will be able to amaze the world as a web application within the social networking kingdom that is Facebook.

Personally, I am not sure if it will be able to. This is because The Sims 2 is a huge game in terms of space, graphics required, and the amount of features available. When people play the game in a web browser it is going to be a scaled-down version of the game.

The massive advantage to playing on Facebook is the way families will be able to socialize with others with the title and everyone will be seeing who can become the richest. But, at the end of the day, people are going to compare it to what is available on a discounted copy of The Sims 2 on the PC with the expansion packs and notice there are a lot more features available with that version than within the Facebook app.

The other way of looking at it is the fact that The Sims 2 could have been more popular if more people could play it. You see, it required a decently good computer to run properly which put off a lot of people because most people do not want to upgrade their computer just to play one game. A social networking version will not require much computer power, and this will encourage more people to play.

Do you think The Sims 2 will be a big hit? There are some pros and there are some cons, but they even out. I just don't know if it is going to be enough to grab the popularity.
