Wii Virtual Console News and Releases for 7/28/2008

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

With E3 and Comic Con now over, we all get to catch our collective breath and relax... at least until PAX at the end of August. Still, just because there aren't any media events or conventions doesn't mean the news takes a break, too:

Nintendo, Fujifilm team up for Wii photo service: Wired's Game|Life Blog reported Friday that Nintendo and Fujifilm would be teaming up to launch a new channel that lets you print photos from your Wii. Launched last Wednesday in Japan, the free Digicam Print Channel lets Wii owners upload pictures from SD memory cards and have them printed. Transactions are done via credit card and the photos are mailed to you. On top of photos, you can also have business cards printed that feature your photo, your Mii avatar or Mario-themed ones.

According to the article, pricing starts at 30 yen ($.30) for one print — 89mm x 127mm — with a square-bound 21-page photo album going for 1,575 yen ($15) and a set of 30 business cards at 500 yen ($5). Nintendo announced that while the service is in Japan right now, it will be rolled out to North America and Europe in the future.

Also, via GoNintendo, our friends in Japan will be seeing Rockman from the Famicom, Street Fighter II: Special Championship Edition from the Mega Drive and Blood Gear from the PC-Engine on their Virtual Consoles tomorrow.

As for North American Wii owners, the Wii Shop Channel has been stocked with three new titles, including a WiiWare title that had a bit of controversy upon its announcement. This week's new titles are:

WiiWare

Pong Toss—Frat Party Games (JV Games, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Language, 800 Wii Points): Pony up—it’s Pong Toss time. Compete against your friends or the computer in this ultimate party-game favorite. Play on a regulation table with up to four players. Make consecutive shots for the Fireball bonuses and Roll-Backs as you or your team try to dominate the table and reign as Pong Toss champs. In Speed Pong, up to three challengers can compete at the same time. Speed and strategy are the keys to this fast-paced game. Jack up your opponents by using a slew of power-ups that will slow them down. The first one who sinks the last cup wins it all. Be fast. Be furious. Be victorious
