Wii Virtual Console News and Releases for 5/5/2008

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

Days left until WiiWare arrives in North America: 7

If you're reading this, it can only be for one reason: you want to know what came out on the Virtual Console this week. Well, thankfully, I'm here to tell you just that. But first, some news:

Europe gets another Hanabi Festival: Yes, that's right. European Wii owners get to experience another Hanabi Festival on the Virtual Console, bringing them more Japanese games they didn't have previously. This time around, it's Columns III: Revenge of Columns, Final Soldier and Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou being released. As for North America... well, we're still getting these games whenever Nintendo of America lets us at them.

Nintendo finally addressing storage space fears: After almost a year of complaining, Wii owners may finally be on the road to seeing an issue addressed: storage space on the Wii. The long-criticized lack of an external hard drive may have finally gotten to Iwata's ears, as he addressed it in this year's financial results briefing:

"Statistically speaking, it is true that there are a small number of customers who feel that the flash memory is too small, while many others find that they have plenty of memory. However, because this small number of people are none other than the most avid players, we know we have to review the best possible solution to eliminate their inconvenience."

Damn straight you listen to your core market, Iwata. Now, about F-Zero Wii...

And though it's somewhat unrelated:

Amazon sells out of Wii Fit: Internet retail giant Amazon has reported that they have sold out of all pre-order copies of Wii Fit. The pre-orders started on April 15, and knowing Amazon, they likely had a huge shipment of Wii Fit bundles. The, message, which can be found on Amazon's Wii Fit page, reads the following:

"As you may know, the Nintendo Wii Fit is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the U.S. In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase Wii Fit from Amazon.com, we are actively seeking more of this product from suppliers. Please check back soon to see if more are available."

So, if you're interested in getting Wii Fit, I'd suggest going and pre-ordering it now at where ever you shop for games.

As for the games, it's back up to two this week after only Double Dragon last week. Both are pretty good titles, and one is a prequel of sorts to a recent release on the Virtual Console. One that starts with River City and ends in Ransom.
