Wireless technology is great isn’t it? There’s nothing better than having a little gaming session online without being chained to the desk. Even the newer handheld consoles take advantage of this beautiful technology. Nintendo DS in particular has an absolutely stunning online service - easy to use, seamless integration with games, and relatively lag free - the Nintendo Wi-Fi service is the best thing since sliced bread… and it’s just got a whole lot better.
“How much better?” you may ask. Well, would you like a specialized website where you easily locate friends to play with? How would you like to play your favorite Wi-Fi enabled games for prizes in tournaments and leagues? Now you can.
HM-Fusion, a rather spiffy news and entertainment website created in 2004 that has grown pretty fast into one of the leading destinations for coverage of anime, movies, and sports, as well as games, has introduced a new service: WiFi Gamers.
Following the success of their first foray into online gaming with WiFi Karts (dedicated to Mario Kart DS) five months ago, these nice chaps have opened up WiFi Gamers, which promises to make finding new competition for any UK based Wi-Fi Nintendo gamer a breeze.
For those of us who love a good challenge and love great prizes there is also WiFiGamersElite. For a measly entry fee of £5 (that’s about the same price as a pint and a half of amber nectar at your local pub) you can enter the first tournament with the top prize consisting of a "premium" Xbox 360 package worth £280! You know how hard it is to get a hold of one of those! They also have an iPod Nano up for grabs in another tournament, and have many more tourneys in planning stages, including competitions for Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land, Tetris DS and Metroid Prime Hunters.
This isn’t all you get for your fiver. Oh no. Not content with giving you a brilliant set of gaming opportunities, HM-Fusion also gives you your very own wifigamers.co.uk E-mail address, access to special WiFiGamersElite forums, exclusive newsletters, along with special previews of upcoming products and news.
I hope to see you all tearing up the asphalt in the Mario Kart tourney.
