What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for June 8, 2009

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

Well, E3 is over, and there were quite a few surprises. At least Nintendo's press event was not a total trainwreck like last year, and we got a few small surprises out of it. One of those happens to be a game that's coming out today on DSiWare, along with the usual Wiiware and Virtual Console titles.

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! (Nintendo, 1 player, 800 DSi Points). Announced last week at E3, the game is another Mario vs. Donkey Kong sequel, featuring more puzzles for the Mini Marios to navigate through. The defining feature, though has to be the new level editor that will not only let you create your own levels, but send them across the Internet for others to play. Glad to see they're making use of that wireless connection to the Web thew DS and DSi have.

On WiiWare there are two titles again this week, Swords & Soldiers (Ronimo Games, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points) and Fish’em All! (Abylight, 1-2 players, 800 Points). Fish’em All! is a fist-themed arcade-style title intedned to appeal more to a casual crowd, though it does feature a very interesting mode called "Fishtris." Any guess to what that might be?

Swords & Soldiers, though, is a bit more complicated in its description. It's apparently a side-scrolling real-time strategy game, combining two classic genres together into one tight package. However, the game looks absolutely wonderful, featuring a ton of beautiful original artwork, and might be worth a download for those who love strategy titles.

On the Virtual Console this week is Koei's Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Gray Wolf from the Super Nintendo (1-2 players, 800 Wii Points). Another classic strategy title from the fine folks at Koei, this game really only leaves me with one question: can we get a new Genghis Khan for WiiWare? That would be tight.

Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Gray Wolf debuts, apparently, on the North American Virtual Console. It, along with Swords & Soldiers and Fish’em All!, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! is available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
