On the Virtual Console this week is Boulder Dash from the Commodore 64 (1-2 players, 500 Wii Points). Not surprisingly, the game features boulders, but it is one of the few games to ever go from the home computer scene to arcades and not the other way around. It's also a very unique strategy game in that our hero, Rockford (boulders, rocks ... get it? *sigh*), must dig through caves to collect diamonds while avoiding falling boulders. The graphics are indeed a bit dated, but the game itself hopefully still plays as well as it did on the Commodore 64.
Boulder Dash was released on the PAL Virtual Consoles in September 2008. It, along with Final Fantasy IV: The After Years and Texas Hold'em Tournament, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Mighty Flip Champs! is available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.
Check back next week for the latest round of releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
