E3 might be this week and Nintendo's presser is not until tomorrow, but that doesn't mean big news isn't coming out already. In fact, this week's downloadable line-up for the Wii and DSi has plenty of it, featuring not one, but two highly anticipated third-party titles! What a way to kick off Nintendo's E3: let's hope tomorrow keeps the ball rolling. Especially after last year's disaster ...
This week's games are as follows:
On DSiWare, we have Mighty Flip Champs! (WayForward Technologies, 1 player, 800 DSi Points). Perhaps the first must-have DSiWare third party game, the developers of Shantae, Contra 4 and the upcoming a boy and his blob have put together an action puzzle game staring Alta and her Warp Wand. Using the wand, Alta replaces the world she is currently in on one screen with the world shown on the other screen to navigate through dangers such as spikes and other traps. Given WayForward's track record on handheld titles, I would be shocked if this game was anything less than spectacular. Fans of games that require strategy would be well-advised to download this title.
On WiiWare there are two titles again this week, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (Square Enix, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) and Texas Hold'em Tournament (Digital Leisure Inc., 1-6 players, 500 Points). Texas Hold'em Tournament seems like your run of the mill poker game, except with online leaderboards, Mii character support, and online play, which are all nice bonuses. The true star of the week, though, has to be Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, which started life as a cell phone game in Japan and is a sequel to the beloved Final Fantasy IV. Taking on the role of Cecil and Rosa's son Ceodore, players are faced with monsters reappearing in the world, which has long ago achieved peace. What does it all mean? Download the game to find out.
