What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for May 10, 2010

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

Got a fan of fighting games in the house? Happen to own a DSi and want something for free? Well, in either case, this is your lucky week, because the DSi title Photo Dojo is not only a fun fighting title where you become the fighter, it's free for the next month if you own a DSi. Sweet! Oh, and on top of that, Earthworm Jim is back on the DSi, and WiiWare owners get another Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney title to lawyer their way through.

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare this week, we have Photo Dojo (Nintendo, 1-2 players, free [200 Points starting June 11]), Earthworm Jim (Gameloft, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), Chess Challenge! (Digital Leisure, 1-2 players, 500 DSi Points), and Flips: The Enchanted Wood (EA, 1 player, 500 DSi Points). Photo Dojo is the biggest highlight this week. Aside from being free for a month, it lets you put yourself in the game using the DSi camera to take pictures and record sounds. The game then uses these to build a character that you can use to fight. Sure, it's a bit clunky sometimes, but it's still very fun! Earthworm Jim adds in some camera support for a few mini-games that involve facial expressions, but other than that, it's the same old awesome yet difficult platformer. Chess Challenge! features local wireless play and lots of traditional chess fun. Flips: The Enchanted Wood, meanwhile, is the next chapter in EA's downloadable book series.

This week, WiiWare has two games: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations (Capcom, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points) and Chess Challenge! (Digital Leisure, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points). Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations is the last of the three games in this series that we'll be seeing on the Wii.  It features our favorite videogame lawyer and his Wii remote controls. That is, it's the last one unless they decide to release Apollo Justice as a WiiWare game, too. Chess Challenge! takes good ol' chess and adds in some online multiplayer, leaderboards and Mii support. It's also pretty similar to the DSi version released today.

The Virtual Console has a nothing on it this week again. But Photo Dojo being free for a month should make up for it, no?

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations and Chess Challenge! are available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Photo Dojo, Earthworm Jim, Chess Challenge!, and Flips: The Enchanted Wood are available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
