What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for May 11, 2009

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

Three games hit the Wii and DSi Shop Channels this week, and all three have names obvious enough to tell you exactly what you're getting without your even having to play the game, or perhaps, even see a single screenshot. It's weird how it worked out like that this week, but if you ask me it kind of makes shopping for digital downloads a bit easier. Maybe developers should do this more often. Hmmmm ...

Anyways, this week's game are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have Real Soccer 2009 (Gameloft, 1-4 players, 800 DSi Points). It is pretty much what it says it is: a soccer game for the DSi. Also released on the iPhone, it'll be interesting to see what kind of added features — if any — the DSi version will have. At 800 points, it might be a bit steep for what just amounts to a portable soccer game, but fans of the world's most popular sport may want to take a look at this title.

On WiiWare there's Family Pirate Party (Aksys Games, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points), yet another party-style game for the Wii. If you're sick of these, get used to seeing a lot more, because this is the kind of game that is apparently supposed to appeal to the Wii's "new" user base. Of course, that means this game features plenty of pirate-themed minigames, which are in keeping with the game's title. It's only 500 points, so it might be worth it considering how cheap it is, but unless you have a lot of non-gamer friends over to play on your Wii, you might want to pass.

On the Virtual Console this week is the Sega Genesis title Galaxy Force II (1 player, 800 Wii Points). As expected by the title, it's a space-themed shoot-em-up, and a pretty generic one at that. Your usual themed levels — like ice and fire and jungle ones — are all here for your ship-piloting pleasure. Shoot-em-up fans may be interested in this, but everyone else can probably hold on to their points.

Galaxy Force II was released on the Japanese Virtual Console in February and on the PAL Virtual Console earlier in May. It, along with Family Pirate Party, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Real Soccer 2009 is available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
