This is it: the last week of 2009. Throughout the holiday season, Nintendo's kicked their offerings into high gear, releasing at least 10 games each week for about the past two months. In keeping with that trend, this week we have exactly 10 titles, and for the most part, they're no worse than average. At least two of the Wii games this week are games you probably ought to own.
This week's games are as follows:
The Oregon Trail (Gameloft, 1 player, 800 DSi Points), Sudoku Sensei (Hudson, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), Glow Artisan (Powerhead Games, 1 - 2 players, 500 DSi Points), Master of Illusion Express: Psychic Camera (Nintendo, 1 player, 200 DSi Points), and Arcade Hoops Basketball (Skyworks Interactive, Inc., 1 player, 200 DSi Points). The Oregon Trail is a port of the mobile phone remake Gameloft came out with, which I'm actually not a fan of. The remake, I mean: I still love the original game, after all. Sudoku Sensei is, yes, yet another attempt for a developer to cash in on sudoku on the DSi. How many of these games do we have now? 15? 20? It feels like at least that many. Glow Artisan takes pictures you capture with the DSi camera and turns them into in-game puzzles, or you can pick from the 100 built-in puzzles. Master of Illusion Express: Psychic Camera is yet another installment in the series using the DSi camera, this time to take a picture of a friend and "guess" what they're thinking. Arcade Hoops Basketball brings basketball to Nintendo's handheld by using the stylus. Whether that will work, I'm not sure.
On WiiWare, we've got Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth (Konami, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points), Eat! Eat! Fight! (Tecmo, 1 - 2 players, 1,000 Wii Points), Rabbids Lab (Ubisoft, 1 player, 500 Wii Points), and The Magic Obelisk (Game Arts Co., LTD., 1 player, 500 Wii Points). Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth takes the Game Boy game of a similar name (minus the ReBirth bit, obviously) and makes it over in glorious color. Also, it's a Castlevania game, so you know what you're getting in regards to challenge and depth, which is to say ... a lot of both. Eat! Eat! Fight! is the kind of game that's going to piss parents off in that it revels in eating, getting fat, and fighting. I swear, that's what Tecmo described the game as. Rabbids Lab is essentially the Rabbid customizing part of the criminally underrated Rabbids Go Home, allowing you to customize and play around with a little Rabbid without having to, you know, play the full game. Lastly, The Magic Obelisk is part stealth puzzle, part platformer as players guide two spirits through a level so a tree spirit can plant its roots.
