It's just about December, and while the year is winding down, the game releases certainly are not. Nowhere is that more true than on the DSi and Wii, where the digital downloads have been coming fast and furious for the past few weeks. What once was a drought has now turned into a monsoon, this week featuring a total of 10 games across both platforms! The question is: are they good ones?
This week's games are as follows:
On DSiWare, we have four new games: Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes (EA, 1 player, 800 DSi Points), Bookworm (PopCap Games, 1 player, 500 DSi Points), Master of Illusion Express: Mind Probe (Nintendo, 1 player, 200 DSi Points), and Sudoku Challenge! (Digital Leisure Inc., 1 player, 500 DSi Points).
Foto Face: The Face Stealer Strikes is an ambitious title that makes use of the DSi's camera and microphone to put you, in a sense, in the game. It's an action piece where the titular Face Stealer has taken your identity and it's up to you to get it back. It's not the first time we've seen EA use imaging technology in their recent games, and I'm sure it won't be the last. As for Bookworm, unless you've been living under a rock the last five years, you should know what this word-puzzle game is all about. If not, well, it's about taking letters and spelling words to feed your little worm buddy. The last two games are another installment in the Master of Illusion Express series and, surprise, another DSi Sudoku game, but this one claims to have 100 million puzzles in it.
On WiiWare, we've got Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 4 (Telltale Games, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points), My Zoo (Hudson, 1 player, 500 Wii Points), Copter Crisis (Digital Leisure Inc., 1 player, 500 Wii Points), and Christmas Clix (JV Games Inc., 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points). Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 4 is, of course, the latest installment in Guybrush Threepwood's most-recent adventure, and so far, the series has turned out to be excellent. There's only one more part left before it's all over, so if you haven't started playing this series yet, now's a good time to do just that. My Zoo is an animal sim where you have to raise zoo animals (no surprise there). Copter Crisis puts players in the seat of a helicopter, while Christmas Clix is a Christmas-themed puzzle game.
