What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for November 9, 2009

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

Last week, I mentioned that I was somewhat disappointed with the Wii/DSi Shop Channel line-up. This week? Well, it's the opposite of that. DSiWare, WiiWare, and the Virtual Console all pack strong titles this week, and hopefully, with the holiday season kicking into full swing, it's just the beginning of a ton of great releases over the next few weeks.

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have a bunch of new games: Bomberman Blitz (Hudson, 1-8 players, 500 DSi Points) and a ton of bite-sized Electroplankton titles: Trapy, Hanenbow, Rec-Rec, Nanocarp, and Beatnes (Nintendo, 1 player, 200 DSi Points each). Bomberman Blitz is essentially the same retro-styled multiplayer Bomberman you've been playing on the Xbox 360 previously, except now it's on the DSi. If you don't have an earlier version of this game, it's ridiculously fun and I'd highly suggest picking it up. The Electroplankton games are all small parts of the full title, which is a hard-to-find DS game. If you like good rhythm games, these mini-Electroplankton games might be up your alley.

On WiiWare, we've got Excitebike: World Rally (Nintendo, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points), Frogger Returns (Konami Digital Entertainment, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points), and Dragon Master Spell Caster (Stickmen Studios, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points). Frogger Returns is a 3-D remake of the original 2-D title that adds in some new power-ups and levels, as well as multiplayer. Dragon Master Spell Caster is a dragon-based combat game that looks ... well, it looks really dated. Like it belongs on the Nintendo 64. Of course, the real gem this week is Excitebike: World Rally, an update of the classic Excitebike franchise featuring four new championship circuits, online multiplayer game play and a track editor that lets you share your maps online. It's pretty much everything you could want in an Excitebike game in the 21st century.
