What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for September 14, 2009

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

For the first time in quite some time, we've actually got update news to talk about. If you happen to still use the Nintendo Channel on your Wii, you will be happy to know that an update is now available for download. The update changes up the design of the channel and also improves some of its features, like smoother video streaming. Of course, they could throw a few more DS/DSi demos on there and I might actually use it a bit more often.

Oh yeah, before I forget, there are games to talk about, too. This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have Art Academy: First Semester (Nintendo, 1 player, 800 DSi Points) and Oscar in Toyland (Virtual Playground, 1 player, 800 DSi Points). Oscar in Toyland is a pretty standard platforming title, while Art Academy: First Semester is a mystery. The trademark for Art Academy's use in games was registered a while ago along with Wii Fit Plus, but Nintendo hasn't released any information on the game until just now. All I know to expect from Nintendo is that it's going to be more geared towards the new gaming crowd and it'll probably be a decent title, since it's from Nintendo.

On WiiWare, we've got Mart Racer (Joju Games, 1-4 players, 800 Wii Points), Spaceball: Revolution (Virtual Toys, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points), and Texas Hold’Em Poker (Exkee, 1-3 players, 600 Wii Points). Texas Hold’Em Poker is, quite obviously, a Texas Hold 'Em game that also has Mii support. Nothing big here. Mart Racer is a decidedly low-quality game where you race other teams by pushing a shopping cart around a low-res store trying to collect items. Spaceball: Revolution is probably the best of the three titles this week. It's a puzzle game where you have to shoot balls at a wall to light up certain patterns. Meanwhile, you also have to maneuver around objects in your path, some of which will deflect your ball and some of which will destroy it. It looks pretty good for a WiiWare game, so check it out.
