What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for September 7, 2009

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

Nintendo heads out into space for the latest additions to the Wii and DSi Shop Channels — outer space and clubhouse space. In addition to a DSiWare and two WiiWare releases, the final part of the LucasArts Star Wars trilogy for the Super Nintendo is finally being released. And this week, everything's pretty reasonably priced, too.

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have Clubhouse Games Express: Family Favorites (Nintendo, 1-8 players, 500 DSi Points). Family Favorites features classic card games like Hearts and Contract Bridge; old-school games (literally) like Dominoes, Dots and Boxes, and Ludo. Players can use DS Download Play to host as many as seven friends in each of these games.

On WiiWare, we've got Contra Rebirth (Konami, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points) and ColorZ (Exkee, 1-3 players, 700 Wii Points). Contra Rebirth is indeed a new Contra game, and having been playable at PAX, let it be known that Contra Rebirth is just as painful, just as difficult, and just as old-school as Contra 4 was. ColorZ, meanwhile, is a game where players pilot a ship that can absorb different colored viruses that match the ship's colors while avoiding those that don't. It sounds a little bit like the two-tone color mechanic Ikaruga is famous for, but perhaps in a more easy-to-play format.

On the Virtual Console this week is the Super Nintendo's Super Return of the Jedi (1 player, 800 Wii Points). The last game in the Super NES series from LucasArts, it's not as widely-loved as Empire Strikes Back video game version is, but it is every bit as difficult as the other Star Wars games released over the last few weeks.

Super Return of the Jedi debuts on the North American Virtual Console. It, along with Contra Rebirth and ColorZ, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Clubhouse Games Express: Family Favorites is available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
