What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for August 10, 2009

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

This week on the list of digital downloads from Nintendo, we've got quite an assortment — a little bit of mountain climbing, a little bit of rock and roll, a little bit of platforming, and a little bit of reading. Yes, there's some reading this week. No, it's not War and Peace.

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters (Nintendo, 1 player, 800 DSi Points). Another little snippet of Brain Age, this downloadable title focuses on, not surprisingly, reading exercises and letter games. It's pretty much what you would expect from Brain Age, but whether it's worth 800 points is another question in itself.

On WiiWare, there are two titles this week: NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits (Over the Top Games, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points) and Rock N' Roll Climber (Nintendo, 1 player, 800 Wii Points). Rock N' Roll Climber, if you remember from E3, is a game about climbing a mountain using the Wii remote, nunchuk attachment, and balance board to move your character around. At the top, you get a guitar and get to play it. The game didn't impress the crowd too much at E3, and at 800 points, it's hard to tell if it'll sell well. NyxQuest might be a different story, as it is a side-scrolling platformer in the same vein as the beloved Kid Icarus. If Over the Top Games has put together a solid title, look for NyxQuest to do very well and be very much worth the money.

On the Virtual Console this week is Super Nintendo title Super Star Wars (1-4 players, 800 Wii Points). The classic LucasArts title is a side-scrolling shooter/platformer. It's kind of like Gunstar Heroes a bit, but with a little slower action and, of course, the Star Wars franchise behind it.

Super Star Wars debuts on the North American Virtual Console. It, along with NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits and Rock N' Roll Climber, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters is available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
