Before we begin, there's a bit of news to announce: Nintendo is planning an update this month for the 3DS that will add the eShop and an Internet browser to the brand-new handheld, but we don't exactly know when yet. Expect to see more details on it soon and to see a slight change in the weekly rundown, as we'll have to accommodate another new category.
But as for the here and now, this week's got some good games and a heck of a surprise for Wii owners. No, it's not a Virtual Console game ... but if you were thinking that, you're on the right track.
This week's games are as follows:
On DSiWare, there's Mighty Milky Way (WayForward, 1 player, 800 DSi Point), GO Series Tower of Deus (Gamebridge, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) and Whack-a-Friend (Agetec, 1 player, 200 DSi Points).Mighty Milky Way stars Luna, who jumps from planet to planet as she tries to make a path toward planet candy. But she's got to make the right path, because there's a dinosaur on her tail. A dinosaur that can move through space. Seriously. GO Series Tower of Deus, on the other hand, is a rather traditional platformer where you have to ascend a haunted tower and take on the monsters inside. Finally, Whack-a-Friend is what it sounds like: take pictures of friends with the DSi camera, then play Whack-a-Mole with their faces.
WiiWare has no demos this week and only one title to speak of: MDK2 (Interplay, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points). Older gamers might remember this game both as one of BioWare's earlier titles and a pretty good game. In it, you play as three different characters with totally different playing styles: Kurt Hectic, who snipes anything and everything in his path; Dr. Hawkins, who combines all kinds of contraptions into useful inventions; and Max, a dog with four arms that shoots guns. Yep, it's weird, but oddly entertaining!
The Virtual Console's on its off-week this week, so expect a new release next Monday. Hopefully, it'll be a good one.
MDK2 is available right now on the Wii Shop Channel, while Mighty Milky Way, GO Series Tower of Deus and Whack-a-Friend are available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.
That's it for this week's list of DSiWare and WiiWare games. Until next time, happy gaming!
