What's New on the Wii/DSi Shop Channel for June 22, 2009

Part of: Wii/DSi Shop News and Releases

Got a longing for more WiiWare? Then this is your week, as that service is getting three brand-new titles. DSiWare and the Virtual Console are getting new games this week, too, and best of all, no applications! Hooray for that!

This week's games are as follows:

On DSiWare, we have Art Style: BOXLIFE (Nintendo, 1 player, 500 DSi Points). Another Art Style series game, this one features you putting together pieces of a puzzle to “climb the corporate ladder.” Whatever that means. It looks interesting, and the Art Style series has not been a letdown yet, so I suspect this game will be well worth the money.

On WiiWare, there are three titles this week; Drill Sergeant Mindstrong (Xseed, 1-4 players, 800 Wii Points), NEVES Plus (Yukes', 1-4 players, 600 Wii Points) and Family Mini Golf (Aksys Games, 1-4 players, 500 Points). It's another round of games where the title says it all: Drill Sergeant Mindstrong is a boot camp-themed mini-game compilation. NEVES Plus is an updated version of a DS puzzle game that was actually pretty good, and Family Mini Golf is ... well, miniature golf the entire family can play.

On the Virtual Console this week is SimEarth from the TurboGrafx16 (1 player, 800 Wii Points). Maxis' old-school planet-creation game was like a really, really early look at the line of thinking that would lead to Spore, except on a huge global basis. I remember the PC version of this well. Nothing like sending Earth into a planet-wide freeze or bombarding it with meteors.

SimEarth was released in May on the Japanese Virtual Console. It, along with Drill Sergeant Mindstrong, NEVES Plus and Family Mini Golf, is available for download off the Wii Shop Channel, while Art Style: BOXLIFE is available for download off the DSi Shop Channel.

Check back next week for the latest round of digital releases for the Wii and DSi. Until then, happy gaming!
