It’s Monday, meaning that once again, the Wii’s Virtual Console is updated with fresh content. Surprising just about everyone, though, was the fact that only one game was added to the Virtual Console this week:
Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire (Super NES, 1-8 players, 800 Wii Points): Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire is a tactical simulation game in which the player takes the role of a ruler seeking to unite China in the era of the three kingdoms of Wei, Wu and Shu. The role of the ruler is to command a range of officers with differing characteristics - some cunning strategists, others brave warriors - and strengthen the military might of his or her kingdom. Foreign policy, involving forming alliances with certain kingdoms and hatching plans to weaken others, will play a major role in this process. Once players have developed a powerful enough military, it will be time to expand their borders through military conquest. Ultimate victory will only be achieved once all 43 cities in China lie within a player's control.
Even with only one game coming out this week, there is still plenty to look forward to on the Virtual Console. Sega has announced that Vectorman, Virtua Fighter 2, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, and Wonder Boy in Monster World are all future Virtual Console releases, while The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link , Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Gradius III, Galaga, and Star Fox 64 are among the games that have been given a rating on the ESRB’s Web site. The fact that these games have been rated by the ESRB means that they will likely be available on the Virtual Console in the future.
However, games are not the only thing that will be downloadable in the future. The final version of the Wii’s Opera browser will be downloadable in April. The final version of the Opera browser will have the following additional features:
- Improved zooming and scrolling
- Improved zoomed font
- Shortened startup times
- Quicker access to "favorites"
- Ability to hide the toolbar
- Buttons that will instantly type common preset letters, such as "www" or ".com"
The Opera browser will be a free download for Wii owners until the end of June. After June, the Opera browser will be available for download on the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii Points.
