Video Game Industry: The Misconceived Perception - Page 2

Part of: Video Game Industry

When one of the panel members on the Mass Effect segment said something along the lines of "What ever happened to Pong or Pac-Man?" it was clear that these people had no idea what they were talking about. You had another member saying "Mass Effect won't ever be allowed into my house". While he seemed quite naive and misinformed during the segment, he seems to have unintentionally understood the quality of the game and who it is intended for. As a parent, he probably shouldn't let his child play the game as it is intended for adults. However, he spoke as if to say, "There is no way this game, which is aimed at children, will be in my house". What he doesn't realize is that Mass Effect is a game that contains complex story-lines, deep and emotional character development as well as adult themes that are suitable for adults, not children. Yet, it seems as though the non-gaming community has failed to evolve as games have, and are still yet to understand that games are no longer a child's past-time, but a big boys toy.
