Star Wars: The Force Unleashed To Hit The Wii

For a while there was speculation that LucasArts would put Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the Wii, and rumors of using the Wii remote like a lightsaber popped up. Even a YouTube video splicing Wii controls into the actual Star Wars: The Force Unleashed trailer showed up, but alas, it was only a dream.

Today, the dream became reality, as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was officially announced for the Nintendo Wii. The game will hit the console next spring, offering Wii owners the chance to finally live out their Jedi fantasies by wielding the Wii remote as a lightsaber while using the Nunchuk controller to torment foes with their Force powers. It's what every Star Wars fan has ever wanted.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" - which if you follow Star Wars lore doesn't make a whole lot of sense right now, but maybe the game will explain all. The story is set during the largely unexplored era between Episode III A New Hope (a.k.a. the original Star Wars), which is also the same realm that the planned Star Wars TV series is supposed to be set in.

The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also add an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master. Yes, you read that right. Lightsaber duels on the Wii.

The game is currently listed as a March 2008 title, so Star Wars fans have a few more months to wait before they can step into the shoes of a Jedi, but it promises to be a potential best-selling title on the Wii.
